This is my first, and only, attempt at writing a ballad. I originally wrote this for my creative writing class in high school, but after reading it again, I decided to upload it. I'm afraid that there might be some of you that would hate me for writing this, especially for certain parts. I'm sorry, but the way I wrote it is in the frame of mind on what people would’ve thought the day it happened, not what people would think currently.

A Terrible Day

It was one fine day

The sun was starting to shine,

People going about their own way,

No one suspecting a reason to mourn,

No one suspecting a reason to mourn.

--

All around the country,

People were heading to work,

Students were starting to study,

When news came out about an attack,

When news came out about an attack.

--

Where there was once

The towering spectacle of the Twin Towers,

Was the mess

Of concrete and steal showers

Of concrete and steal showers.

--

On board four planes were terrorists

Attempting to send the world a message

That they would resist

All the changes that would cause damage

All the changes that would cause damage.

--

The passengers on the first three planes

Had no reason to expect an end to their lives

When they left on their final flight

That would give the whole world a fright

That would give the whole world a fright.

--

The fourth and final plane was different;

All aboard already heard about the first two

Planes. They had no deterrent

To try to take out those who flew

To try to take out those who flew.

--

In the end they managed to achieve

To regain control enough to prevent

Something more to grieve

About. The death of the President

The death of the President.

--

While all would grieve for the losses

The United States wanted more

And the President feared for more losses.

America went to war

America went to war.

I won't claim that I am one that enjoys poetry or can write it well. If you think that this was well written, thank you. This was probably one in a million for me.
