A/N: I'm SO SORRY for taking so long to update!! I got carried away with another story, and school and work! I'm really sorry. So here's the next chapter. I hope you guys enjoy it!

Chapter Eight

“I think this calls for Operation Break Alexis Out and Hook Her Back Up With Trent.” Maybelle says at lunch. I laugh.

“That’s a pretty long operation name.” She sticks her tongue out at me.

“You know what I mean girly.” She stabs her fork in a potato wedge and stuffs it in her mouth. I grimace at the sight. The food at the school sucks. That’s why I bring my own lunch.

“Uh, how will that work though? I’m still semi-grounded! And if they find out that I snuck out to see Trent I’ll never be able to see him for the rest of my life!” Maybelle rolls her eyes.

“That’s why I have this amazing plan, silly. You come to my house, because you can, and then I send Jessie out to pick up Trent and bring him over. You can spend the night... because I’ll make sure you can, and then we all can hang out together!”

“And how are you going to convince my parents that I can go over your house and spend the night?”

“Because I’m going to talk to them. I miss my best friend. It’s not fair that I only get to see you at lunch!” She pouts and I crack up.

“Okay, come over after school. My mom took the day off today.”

“Yes! Operation Break Alexis Out begins!” I laugh as the lunch bell rings. “Meet me at my car after school, okay?”

“Roger that. See ya!”

“See ya!”

:-:

Maybelle blasts the radio as we drive to my house. “So, do you think that this plan will work?” I ask her as she pulls up in to my drive way.

“Of course it will! Your mom adores me.”

“Not since that last stunt we pulled in summer.”

“She’s over it.” Maybelle pulls the keys out of the ignition and we hop out of her car.

We walk in to my house and Anne runs out in to the hall and smiles. “Mom, sissy’s home!” My mom comes out in to the hall after and smiles. Then she sees Maybelle and frowns.

“You’re not allowed to have friends over.” Maybelle winces and then puts on her best face.

“Mrs.-”

“Call me Jan.”

“Jan, I have a small proposition for you. You see... I miss my best friend. I only get to see her at lunch at school and that’s not enough. I was wondering... since today is Friday. If she could stay the night at my house and we could catch up on old times? My parents already said it’s fine.”

My mother shakes her head and stares at me. “You get your friend to ask me if you could sleep over?”

“I didn’t-”

“Alexis, enough! You have to watch Anne tonight.”

“What? Why?” She never said anything about that this morning!

“Because, your dad and I are going out.”

“When the hell did you make that plan?”

“Excuse me?” I turn to Maybelle, tears starting to form in my eyes.

“You better go home... I’m sorry. Maybe some other time.” She nods with a sad look in her eyes. She gives me a big hug and turns around to leave. When I hear the door shut I walk by my mom. “You just don’t want me to be happy? Is that right? You don’t want to see me happy, because you’re not happy!”

She grabs my arm and swings me around to face her. “You listen here missy. I don’t like it when you ask if you can do things with your friend in front of them! It’s awkward and really rude! And we’ve planned on this date for a while now. So don’t you dare blame this on me.”

“Well, YOU, never told me about this date at all! This is so freaking unfair! YOU and DAD get to go on dates practically every weekend whereas I have to be stuck home with HER!” I point my finger in Anne’s direction.

“I’ve told you about tonight plenty of times!”

“ARE YOU DEAF? I said that you never told me! You must have thought you did, because I wouldn’t have made plans had I known! Let me go.” I pull my arm away from hers and run up the stairs. “AND GO AHEAD, TELL DAD! I DON’T CARE ANYMORE!” I run in to my room and slam the door shut. My back leans against the door and I slide down it. This isn’t fair. Why doesn’t she just except the fact that I have a life?

Tears stream down my face. Seems like deja vu. I lean my head against my knees and wrap my arms around my legs. I feel so numb. Why does it feel like my life sucks? Why do I feel so damn depressed? I look around my room and something glints in my eye. Scissors. No, I can’t do that... that’s what freaks do. I’m not that type of person...

I pull out my phone and dial the one person’s number that will make the numbness go away.

“Babe?”

“I need you to talk to me... okay? So I can feel better.”

“Okay... School was really dumb. My teachers were being ridiculous and giving us projects. I have like three projects due next week.” I nod. “Hun, what’s wrong?”

“I feel so damn depressed Trent. I need to get out of here... I’m thinking these thoughts that isn’t me!”

“Do you want me to come over?”

“You can’t! I’ll get in to more trouble.” I start to sob in to the phone. “I miss you Trent. I miss everything about you.”

“Babe, I’ll be there in a half an hour... keep your window open.” I nod.

“Please stay on the phone with me.” He sighs and I hear the engine start up.

“Okay, hun, I will.” I feel a little warmth come through my body. The numbness is slowly going away.
