“Do You Like What You See?”
A small broken shard
Edges so smooth
Yet so sharp
Broken mirror
Broken heart
Face reflected
Voice calls out:
“Do you like what you see?”
Eyes water
Piece slips
Blood falls
Like little raindrops
Falling from the sky
Tears reach the floor
The liquids mingle
The beautiful glass now stained with crimson
Holding it again
Hmm, the reflection looks somewhat different
Vision blurred
Face appears to be bleeding
Hand on cheek
All is fine
Yet the reflection says differently
Face looks natural with the blood falling off it
“You like it better that way, don’t you?”
Just a small cut
Not too big
Perhaps, that would be fine
Yes, just a small cut
Edge makes contact
Soft at first
Then grows firm
Stinging relief
Blood trickles down pale skin
Hmm, it looks like a teardrop
There, now the reflection doesn’t lie
“Can you stand to look in the mirror, now? Of course, you can. Now you look the way the mirror tells you to.”
The mirror is always right.
Reflections shouldn’t lie
Nor hide what’s inside.
That’s why it’s broken, stained, bleeding and crying.
It’s showing the truth.
“It controls you to the very end.”
End.
Word sounds sweet.
The mirror is at its end now too.
“But it can be fixed.”
No, it can’t.
“It isn’t in as many pieces as you think.”
Can’t tell
Hurts too much
Too many tears and blood
“So, they can be wiped away.”
Hmmm, suppose they can.
Too late, though, isn’t it?
“No, not if you try.”
Well, then I’ll just have to try.
It’s all matter of trying
You can change if you want to
All you have to do is
Take a look in the mirror
And ask yourself:
“Do you like what you see?”
