She’s known as “Cobra”. It was because of her eyes. They seemed to flicker from one place to another, watching. Silently watching. She gave you the creeps, a cold chill sliding down your spine when it seemed as though she were gazing at you. With her lifeless, soulless, eyes.
Painted a lovely dark chocolate, her eyes attracted many hearts, which she then broke, cracked, and stomped on, one by one. Not that she bothered to apologize, much less give the crushed boys friendship as a safety net.
Out of all the girls in the grade, I had to fall for her. I was to be another one of those lovesick guys chasing after her. She wouldn’t like that, I’m sure. Our first meeting wasn’t the ideal one, for two people destined for one another. Oh boy, I’m already starting to sound like a stalker. But I’ll explain about our first encounter later.
Right now, it was summer; well, really the beginning of autumn. But it was so scalding hot, you wouldn’t have been able to tell the difference. Anyway, after my daily run, I had stopped to sit on a park bench. Some kids around my age were playing baseball, but I didn’t know them since they weren’t in my class.
One thing that makes our school different from all the rest is the separation of students. It’s quite strange, actually.
The grade is split into five different classes, and each class is a group, or clique, if you will. For example, one class is crazy about athletics, another loves reading books and school; all that nerdy stuff. Another one has Goths and people who like horror movies, rock music, that sort of thing. After that is the class that contains mainly cheerleaders and the occasional “pretty boy”. Finally, there’s my class.
My class contains the “leftovers”; people who are not jocks nor nerds nor Goths nor cheerleaders. That sounds like I’m putting labels on them, doesn’t it? Well, the fact that I consider the groups cliques is a good indication of that. Gosh, I thought you were smarter than that.
Besides, labeling people gives me protection to some extent; it’s basically how I survive in this school…
