Alex woke up abruptly in his bed, the room was filled with odd smells like that of a wet dog for some reason. He guessed one of the clan members had somehow fallen into the lake, they were in a old boarding house with his father, Erik's clan after all. Erik had become the head of the clan since the leader had been killed, making Alex the heir to the clan, even though he had not even experianced his first full moon yet or even gone full werewolf. He had been too young, he was still 14 years old, and he had only just found out a month ago that Erik was his father. The one thing he didn't enjoy as of yet was his new stepmother, Marishka, ever since they had returned, the two had been dating, and they had jumped the gun getting married so quickly. It wasn't so much that he didn't like her as a person as it was that he didn't like feeling like he was third in his fathers life. First came his wife, then his clan, and then his son, that was how Alex felt, but it was likely completely far away from the truth. Erik was probably the best father you could have, kind and loving, he tried as best he could to give Alex a perfect life, even going into the nearest town disguising himself so that he could buy Alex clothing. However, lately, Alex saw very little of Erik, who had been going around to different human governments, preparing them all for the war that was quickly approaching. He got out of bed slowly and put on his clothing, walking twoards the kitchen of the small penthouse of the boarding house they were in, it was here that he heard the news that made his mouth drop.
"Erik, I'm going to have a baby..." he could hear Marishka say from the next room.
"Oh my god!" a smile crossed Erik's lips "That's great! I can't believe this..."
Something in Alex was set off, he took a couple of crackers and walked back to his room, they were having a baby, he could barely believe it in both a good and bad way. He knew Erik would come walking in at any moment to tell him that he was going to have a new baby brother or sister, sure enough within seconds Erik walked into the room with a smile. "Hey there champ..." he said softly, sitting next to him on the bed and puthing a claw through his hair "How are you feeling.."
"I've got no complaints..." Alex lied, smiling "So what's with the wide grin dad..."
"Well, your mother gave me some big news today..." he smiled "You're going to have a new baby brother Alex..."
Alex made his smile widen, and looked up at Erik. "That's great dad!" he said in the most enthusiastic way he could.
"You heard didn't you?" Erik smiled "Why aren't you more excited...?"
"I am, truthfully I am..." Alex told him "It's just... I'm still worried about you..."
"Hey, you don't have to worry..." Erik said softly rubbing Alex's back "I made you a promise that I'll always be there for you and I will... I promise I'm going to make it out of the war alive..."
"I still don't understand why I can't help fight the war..." Alex said calmly "I'm ready, I'm old enough-"
"You're already in enough danger as it is..." Erik told him, sighing "I won't let you risk your life on top of it."
"But, dad..." Alex began.
"Don't argue, you are not fighting in this war and that is final..." Erik told him "I'm sorry, but I can't let you fight..."
"But you can just do that, go and risk your life like this!!" Alex said sniffling a little bit "I just found you, I don't want to loose you..."
"Hey, come here..." Erik embraced his son "I'll be fine Bane, and then we can all be a family..."
Bane was Alex's real name, his parents called him that, but he had preferred Alex. "Promise?" he asked.
"Of course I do..." Erik smiled, letting go "But don't do anything crazy to try to join the war... Can you promise me that?"
"I think so..." Alex laughed slightly, and Erik walked out of the room.
"Man, raising a kid is tougher then it looks..." Erik whispered "Especially in the middle of a war..."
He walked out the door of their penthouse, and disapeared into thin air.
