I Desire Nothing
by Siberia

Note: Verses that I scratched on a notepad when I couldn't sleep.

Of all the world's treasures
I desire nothing

I avoid the sun's rays
For they pierce through my flesh
My companions and kin
Bring neither comfort nor joy
The gems of love, hope and dreams
Have long since lost their luster
Lust-inspiring Adonises
Inebriate me no more
The quest for power and money
Still seems hollow and empty
Music and art fail to mend
The faltering walls of my heart
Awe no longer fills my soul
When I read the myths of old
Sleep, if it should ever visit
Rejuvenates not my strength
I renounce even fair starlight
Which I once sought passionately

I desire nothing
But the tranquility of death
A mortal's gift to end
The staleness of existence
For if I cannot learn how to live
At least I should know how to die
