My favorite, and best.
Reflections
I walked with you 'neath sun-bathed trees,
climbed them, felt the grace and ease
with which they swayed like waves in seas,
All we need is each other, it seems.
I talked to you for hours on end,
There in the shady river's bend,
Words without meaning to the four winds we'd send,
I could talk to you about anything, my friend.
I held dear thoughts of forever in my dreams,
But alas, fate once so steady often leans
Towards the forces that tear apart lives at the seams
Happiness is not easily found, it seems.
I held your hand as the fight began,
Our whole lives crushed and scattered like sand,
It was almost too horrible to remember, and...
I knew that here was where evil would land.
I fought with you, we thought it was right,
And yet we accomplished nothing that night,
Hatred and justice, mercy and fright,
History is for the winners to write.
I rose with you from the blood and embers,
Smoke fled to the heavens, a silent sender
Of a message I knew I would always remember.
Peace lies as cold as the heart of December.
