One of my random thought processes. Rather lyrical, I think.
Sky Blue.
Sky blue,
the shade of a summer sky,
cheerful blue,
the color of my eyes
'ccording to you--
I must admit I'm confused,
for ne'er in my life have I seen
sky blue.
Sky blue,
color of the sky,
but which sky, I ask of you,
in which day and time?
Pre-dawn mist blue,
like white-streaked cyan;
Midnight blue,
lit by Orion;
Twilight blue, with sun's last rays
Streaking red midst purplish haze;
midmorning blue, pale and light,
Dotted by clouds, fluffy and white;
Perfect blue on a perfect day,
Free, azure, where no clouds stray.
Steel-grey blue, a rainy morn,
In which the tantrums of heav'n are born--
Stormy blue, dark and deep,
Struck by lightning, torn by sleet,
heavy black and raging strong,
Storming hard, storming long...
Misty blue, descended cloud
hazing the sky for miles around;
sunset blue, rich and warm,
E'ery color in all the world born
From the single kiss of sky and sea--
That gorgeous blue, is that what you mean?
The blue born of the horizon at sea
When it meets the sky, boundless and free
and the sea reflects the sky above,
an endless tribute to the moon, its love.
Perhaps sea blue is what you imply,
mixed with green and grey, for I
Have seen this color in my sky,
Floating twixt night and dawn; I try
To avoid such permanence, ne'er define
Something so endless, a thing so divine
as that vast expanse, so free, untamed,
Such beauty unmeasured, such colors...unnamed.
You mustn't determine so fin'lly the sky,
as flighty and moody a temptress as I,
I must know, so I ask of you...
What exactly is
"sky blue"?
