Chapter Three
The two looked into each other’s eyes for what seemed like hours, but was actually barely only a few minutes. The ‘staring contest’, or what seemed like it, was so rudely interrupted by a weird and loud noise going off in the guest room where Sally was spending the night. It was extremely annoying that both pairs of eyes instantly moved to look at the window where Sally was headed.
Sally took this as her opportunity to get inside, not to mention to destroy whatever was causing such a raucous. She leaned forward, her arms reaching out for the window in front of her. When she was about to fall off the tree, her hands caught hold of the sides of the window. She then expertly picked up her left foot from the tree and placed on the inside of the window, where the windowsill was. Her hands came to the bottom of the top part of the window and she put pressure against her hands, pulling on the window that wouldn’t budge. She then did the same thing with her right foot and soon she was standing with both feet on the inside sill of the window whilst the rest of her body was handing out. It was quite a bizarre sight if one had just come across it and knew nothing of the girl’s intentions. Sally then somehow miraculously managed to get her whole body inside of the window. She stepped down to the carpet and went in search of the noise contraption.
Meanwhile, the boy was just amazed by her abilities. Sally didn’t even show any signs of being afraid or doubtful. It was then that the boy wondered just exactly how many times she had done this before.
Sally finally found out what it was. She pulled it out of her purse. It was her t-mobile sidekick cell phone. She quickly turned it off. Apparently, she had forgotten to turn it off last night so it had been on all night and now the battery was dead. She hated it when the battery died, because then it made that intolerable annoying sound.
Once the phone was turned off, Sally closed her window and the curtains, stopping the boy’s vision. Sally seemed to forget all about him, or at least, she tried her best too. Once the curtains were closed she sighed and headed back to bed. Hopefully she would be able to go to sleep and get a good decent few hours of sleep, if she were lucky, that was.
The boy too closed his window. There was nothing to look at anymore now that the girl’s window was closed; hence he had no reason to stare off into space while looking at the curtains. Besides, he had more important things to do then think about his mom’s friend’s daughter who just so happened to be his age.
What a strange coincidence. He thought to himself. His mom had told him of the girl’s age and that she would be starting up at the same school he was attending and would be in the same grade as well. Indeed, a very strange coincidence.
About thirty minutes later you could hear a door close and get locked. And you could see a boy with blonde hair walking across the grass of the front lawn of a house if you had been standing in front of said house.
The boy had a backpack slinging off of his right shoulder and was holding a skateboard under his left arm.
The sun was up and shining brightly by now as a couple early rising people walked out to the end of their driveway to pick up their morning newspapers.
The boy walked down the street, thinking that he was all alone. Too bad he didn’t realize that a pair of brown eyes were watching his retreating form and slowly and silently following behind.
It only took around ten minutes by foot before the two teens came across a park, and that park just so happened to include an intense skate park inside it. The boy walked toward the skate park while Sally followed, making sure to hide behind trees so as not to be seen.
As Sally peered around one of the trees she was currently hiding behind, she saw a few other people already in the skate park, talking.
There were two boys and a girl. Each had a skateboard in hand and a helmet and pads on. One of the boys had bright and vibrant red hair with red gear and a black skateboard with red flames on it. The other boy either had sandy blonde hair or light brown hair, Sally couldn’t really tell that well. His skateboard and gear were a sandy color. The skateboard had signatures of people on it, but no other design. The last person, the girl, had real long and bleach blonde hair. Sally wondered if that was even her real hair color. Her gear and skateboard were just a plain white, nothing on them.
Sally then turned her attention back to the boy she had followed. He was sitting on one of the ramps and getting his stuff out. He strapped the stuff do his himself. His gear were a mix of orange, red, and yellow. And his skateboard was the same. But on his skateboard he also had a bright yellow sun with yellow, red, and orange flames going to one side of the sun, as if the sun were moving and the wind were blowing the flames back.
Sally got closer so she could listen to their conversation better. Luckily for her, none of them had spotted her yet.
“Hey, Hayden, what took you so long? Usually you’re here at the crack of dawn. We were beginning to worry and wonder if something happened to you.” The girl said as she jumped off of the perch she was sitting on and landed on the concrete ground that surrounded the skate park.
“Nah, something just held me up. You could say I got…distracted. Otherwise I would have been here sooner. But I appreciate the concern, Val.” Hayden said with a smirk to the girl.
The girl, now known as Val to Sally rolled her eyes and said, “I wasn’t concerned, your royal ego ness. I was just curious whether or not you were gonna make it earlier or not. The boys and I placed bets. Mark bet that you were sick and weren’t coming. Mitchell bet that you slept in and were gonna be late. And of course, knowing me, I bet that you got hung up on a girl.” Val smiled and poked Hayden’s right shoulder with her right index finger. “So…which one of us got it right? Cause you know, I really could use the extra twenty bucks.”
Hayden sighed and smirked. “You were right, Val. I got distracted by a girl.” Before he could say anymore though, the others ‘ooo’ed him. “It’s not what you think.” He continued while the others just had disbelieving looks. “I don’t like her. She was distracting me because she had this annoying contraption that wouldn’t shut up.” Well, it was partly true.
“I swear Hayden; you need to live a little more. You haven’t had a girlfriend in…what was it again? Oh yeah, two months.” The red head, Mark, said walking over to the two.
“Two months isn’t that long Mark. Maybe for you, but unlike you, I’m not a playboy who constantly needs to have a female companion. I’d rather be doing some kind of sport than be stuck with some whiny, stuck-up, spoiled, arrogant, ignorant, pampered brat who always gets what she wants. Believe me, you set me up with one of them before, and that nearly traumatized me for life.” Hayden said with a smile.
The others, excluding Mark, laughed. Mark just pouted and muttered, “You didn’t have to bring that up.”
“Hey, did we come here to talk or did we come here to have some fun? I’ve got to get back home in about an hour to make breakfast for my grandparents. I’d like to be done with this and get back to them before they starve to death. If that happened, it’d be on my conscience for the rest of my life, not to mention that I’d have to go into foster care because-” Mitchell started but was interrupted by Val
“Yeah, yeah, we know Mitch. Save the drama for school.” She said as she climbed up the ladder to get on top of a ramp.
“Hey, guess what I heard.” Mark said as he got up to stand next to Val.
“What?” Val asked as she put one foot on her skateboard. The other two boys were on the other side of the ramp. They could hear the conversation as well.
“I heard that Ulrich’s still trying to get Gemma to go out with him. I don’t know why the guy just won’t give up and leave her alone.” Mark said as he put his foot on his skateboard as well.
“Do you really need to ask that question? It’s because Ulrich is stubborn and doesn’t give up. While that’s good in some things, getting a girl to go out with him is not good for him. The more he asks, the more he gets turned down by her.” Val said as she skated down the closest side of the ramp and up to the other side. She squatted down on the skateboard to gain momentum.
Mark shrugged as he too set off on the ramp, squatting as well. “Oh well. At least Ulrich’s got good tastes. Saying Gemma’s cute is an understatement.” He said as he reached the other side of the ramp and touched the top with his hand, then went back down to go back to the side he started from.
Val stopped her skateboard at the bottom of the ramp and got off. Once her feet were firmly planted on the ground and her skateboard was lying right next her right foot, she turned herself toward Mark.
“Oh no. Not you too. Gemma doesn’t need another stalker. I’m sure one’s plenty. Honestly, I don’t know how many more she can handle; she can barely handle one stalker. As for me, I’ve got five.” Val said as she held up her right hand with her fingers spread, like you would have your hand if you were counting or giving someone a high five. “But unlike Gemma, I can handle them and blow them off in a second. Last year I even reduced my stalker fan club by one.”
Mark took one look at Val’s face and knew that he had to destroy that expression she was holding. A triumphant smirk.
He was soon standing in front of Val on the concrete, his skateboard in his hands. “I honestly don’t know why you have a fan club.” He said as he shrugged. “You’re not that pretty.”
“Excuse me? Did you just call me ugly?” Val asked disbelievingly as she placed her hands on her hips and leaned to put more pressure on her right foot and less on her left.
In truth, Val was anything but ugly. She was so beautiful that she could have been Venus herself. But Mark would never admit that, because admitting that would be like admitting defeat.
Mark shrugged again and said, “Possibly. What are you gonna do about it?”
From behind Mark, Hayden and Mitchell were standing by and watching. They knew better than to intervene with this. They were quietly making bets on who would win.
“Ten bucks says Val kicks Mark’s butt to Australia and back.” Hayden said.
“You’re on.” Mitchell said.
You could almost see a vain popping out in Val’s forehead, that’s how mad she was. Actually, she wasn’t mad, she was angry, aggravated, agitated, annoyed, and anything else you could possibly think of to describe it.
“Dude, if I were you then I’d be running right about now. It doesn’t look like she’s gonna give you much of a head start this time.” Hayden called out to Mark.
This was just too much, Hayden and Mitchell always got a kick out of those two’s fights. They were laughing so hard yet trying to keep it in, but failing badly. Mitchell was trying to refrain himself from rolling around on the ground and laughing.
Mark took the advice and tore off away from the skate park. He was stupid enough to leave his skateboard behind. Val was hot on his trail, she decided it’d be more fun if she chased him on foot as well.
Twenty minutes later, the two walked back side by side. Val had a smug smirk on her face while you could barely even recognize Mark’s face. His face was full of so many bruises you’d think he was holding his breath. Not to mention the bloody nose and the bloody lip.
“Wow, you really gave it to him this time.” Hayden said to Val. He then turned to Mitchell and held his hand out while smiling. “You owe me ten bucks now.”
Once the money was exchanged, the four all said good-bye and parted ways. That was when Sally took the hint that she should get back to the house before Hayden did, and before anyone else noticed she was gone.
When Sally got back to the house she climbed through the window in her guest room and closed it once she was in. She then closed the curtains and climbed into bed. She heard the front door close in the background and soon after heard footsteps coming up the stairs. She heard another door close a minute later. A couple minutes after that she heard music playing.
With the music helping to sooth her, Sally was finally able to drift off into sleep. She didn’t know how long it would be that she would be able to sleep, but she would milk it for all it was worth, as the saying goes. When she woke up later she would deal with everything, but for now she was tired and she wanted nothing more than to sleep.
Hey there. Thanks for reading the third chapter and I hope you liked it. This was a bit longer than my other chapters, which is a good thing. :). Anyways, I know that you're probably wondering: Where the heck is the magic? This is in Fantasy so there should be magic! And what's with the title if there is no magic? Well, the answer to that is: Be Patient. Sorry, but you've got too. The magic will come later. Promise. But until then, please review and keep reading for the fourth chapter which will be up soon.
