Prologue

"Eric, check the sound system."

The dark haired man nodded and proceeded to do as he was told. Seth always liked everything to be in perfect condition whenever they were doing a gig. Mistakes were never good in his eyes.

"Dwayne, you got everything? Your drums and stuff?"

"Yes, sir," Dwayne replied. It was the same automatic response whenever Seth asked him that question, at every single gig, right before their time to perform.

It was routine.

"Seth, we're ready," said Eric in his quiet and calm voice. He picked up his bass guitar, slinging the strap over his shoulder and quickly tuning it.

Seth did the same with his guitar. He adjusted the pegheads until each string was in tune. Or what he thought was in tune. Who knew? And who cared? The crowd of thirty or so people probably weren't musically inclined.

"Dwayne, Eric, you guys ready?"

"Yes."

"Yes, sir."

"And a one, two, three!"

The band rocked into motion. There were no shouts of appreciation or recognition from the crowd. People still continued to drink beer and mingle around as if nothing had happened. The music blasted through the speakers as Seth plucked out an original song on his guitar, with Eric supporting him on the bass line, and Dwayne drumming away in the back.

A few people started to dance along to the music, but there was only one person that caught Seth's eye. She was a teenage girl with short black hair and pale skin. She was small in stature, but he could still spot her in the thin crowd nonetheless.

She was dancing slowly to the rock ballad that the band was playing, a little ways away from everybody else. Seth kept his eyes on her throughout the whole song.

---

Their next song was fast paced and louder. He lost sight of her then.
