Drowning:

I find myself choking,

Slipping deeper into this

Roiling water that

Reaches about me

Like great arms

To pull me beneath

And extinguish this

Flame of life

Only to save myself

I must cry out

Cry out and be heard

Over the waves

That toss and spray

The words seem

Lodged in my throat

As I bid a silent

Farewell to land

Of light

And begin a slow

Spiral of

Darkness and the cold

But even in death

These small words

Will not be heard
