Waves vs. Cliff

-------------------------------

I stand upon a cliff

So high above the sea

And watch the ‘vancing waves

Crash into it ‘neath me

-----

Spray does fly and scatter

With a thunderous roar

Brushing gulls that come near

‘Fore turning to sea a’more

-----

Waves fall back, retreating

A slight reprieve to take

Then advance to firm cliffs

To try again to shake

-----

I watch with amazement

At the beauty and pow’r

As the waves roll and crash

Repeating hour after hour

-----

The cliff stands firm and strong

Yet let time have its say

The constant crash of waves

Will wash the cliff away
