THE PROMETHEUS SLIDE

I stand on the gravel
and watch weather systems form
The first storms of spring, I pray
because each and every part of
the storm was made
to quell the desperate and the shamed
to rattle the rings of the rich
to wash the filth from the poor
I hope it feeds the rust
I hope it wets the dust
I hope it soaks this poet to his bones
first the thunder comes
the pillars of Heaven
the Prometheus Slide
Then the water falls
the tear drop dispensation
the catechism of the changed mammals
caught unaware
one day this will all be yours, one day
but April is no place to be caught alone
