Children of Remarkable Power

A/N: Okay...I wasn't ever planning on posting this until someone coughKatiecough kept on insisting that I should post it. And I'd never hear the end of it unless I posted it so here it is. Um, enjoy?

Summary: Four Kids with unusual powers find themselves fleeing from the only home they've ever knew. On the way, they meet old friends, and new enemies.

Chapter 1

Lance

‘Lance!’ A voice yelled my name, ‘I think I found something!’

I looked over at Ren, who gave me a quick glance before jogging over to Tailynn.

‘What is it, Tails?’ I called, as I gathered some snow in my hands.

‘I think…I think it’s a…’ Tails face looked a little frightened, and Ren took the book gently from her.

‘It’s a journal.’ She answered for Tails. I met her eyes briefly.

I turned away from them. ‘Nath! What’re you doing?’ I called the hothead.

‘Give me a second, Lance!’ He yelled back, from somewhere inside the forest.

‘That hothead.’ I muttered.

‘Can I go see what Nath’s up to?’ Tails asked.

I shrugged, ‘Sure. Be careful though.’

Tails ran into the forest, to find Nathan. Ren came over to me, pushing the journal into my hands.

‘Look at the inside.’ She told me, softly, her dark blonde fair hair tumbled over her shoulders.

I looked at her before slowly opening it. ‘It’s…’

‘Leo’s.’ she finished. ‘You’ll want to hold onto it. Maybe it’ll give us some answers.’

I gritted my teeth, and shoved Leo’s journal into my backpack.

Okay. Here's the deal, ‘cause I know you’re probably lost by now; I’m Lance. 15. I live with three other kids – Renee. AKA Ren (14), Nathan or Nath, who’s twelve, and Tailynn or Tails. Tails is the youngest, at 11. Up until 6 years ago, we were a part of the Freak Show (F.S.) which was basically just a travelling circus that exploited Freaks. Like us.

We were all born with stuff that makes us freaks. We don’t know who our parents are either. We might’ve not even have had any. The Show had been known to associate with a place we called The Lab. The Lab made test tube babies. Which we could have easily been a part of. They might’ve also been the place that made us freaks. We don’t know.

We’re all different; and we’re not the only ones. We all have different abilities, different DNA etc…

For example, Nath can somehow morph into a Tiger. We think he had Tiger DNA implanted into him, but we don’t know for sure. His atoms are different too. He can vibrate his molecules through solid objects. In English? He can walk through walls, etc.

Ren can read minds, control minds, etc. However whilst we were at the Show, tight bracelet thing was forced around her ankle k, preventing her from controlling minds. We tried to remove it once, but it shocked her, which was very painful for her. Leo managed to get it off when he busted us out (I’ll explain about him more later). So she can control minds when she wants to now.

Ren can also morph into an artic fox. Ren’s pretty cool...y’know, for a girl, I mean.

Tails has butterfly wings, and she can fly. Her eyes are no particular real colour. They change a lot. Mostly their green. Occasionally, she makes them pink. This can be rather amusing. They tend change on her mood however.

Tails can’t morph into anything, but the rest of us can. However we all got that power at around the age of eleven or twelve. So we reckon she’ll get that power pretty soon.

I can morph into a wolf. I also have the power to disappear. I can’t count the amount of laughs I got, making myself disappear and sneaking up on people. And I was always the best at hide and seek. Which was cool. It also made it easier whenever I wanted to be on my own for a while.

Technically, we’re just you’re average, everyday mutants, really.

‘What were you doing?’ I asked Nathan, when he came back, but he shook his head.

‘Nothing,’ he said, mysteriously. And he and Tails exchanged grins. I let it go, for now.

‘Come on,’ I said, shaking my head, ‘Lets go.’ And I turned around to go, and started walking. Ren walked beside me.

‘Lance, you really have to lighten up, you know.’ She said, after a few minutes.

I frowned but said nothing.

‘Lance,’ she began again, but I cut her off.

‘When you’re taking care of three other mutant kids, you can’t lighten up, Ren.’ I told her, not looking at her, ‘One wrong move and we could be back there again. We could end up like Leo.’ I met her eyes this time, ‘I’m not taking that chance.’

Then I stalked off ahead of her.
