Words can’t Pierce the Skin

They say that words don’t hurt,

Can’t pierce the skin.

But I know the truth.

They bore into your mind,

Your heart,

They mold us into who we are.

The negatives becomes worries,

The worries become fears,

And the fears become who we are.

Everyday we are either built up,

Or knocked down by them.

They control us,

No matter how hard you try to get rid of them,

They are always there,

Lurking in the back of your mind.

Hiding in the darkness,

Ever building and growing until one day,

They escape.

Then you become those words,

Ugly,

Stupid,

Worthless,

Unloved,

Not wanted.

Or at least that’s what you’ve been made to believe.

Your confidence withers,

All because of those little words,

That you were told can’t pierce the skin.

But guess what?

They do.
