Kari turned her head toward the waving figure as she stepped through the gates. The football game was starting in a little over five minutes. Her high school Varsity team, the Platypus of Ravenswood, why they chose a platypus rather than a raven, is still beyond the students of the school, was playing against the Tigers of Coleville. Kari smiled as she looked out from under her dark brown hair. Her hair was cut in layers and her bangs were long and liked to hang in her face over her golden flecked blue eyes. The waving figure was her boyfriend, Mac. His tall figure towered over her by six inches and his shaggy black hair was barely over his ears. With bright blue eyes, he had the most beautiful smile Kari had ever seen. No one knew she was dating the boy but she had also only started dating him a few days ago. She wanted it quiet so no one would bug him, mainly her friends. She wanted to prepare him before her best friends go hold of him.
Walking up to him, she smiled up at him. Mac smiled back down at her and took her hand into his before turning and leading her toward the stands.
“Howdy.” She greeted with a grin. He laughed down at her before placing a kiss on her forehead and answering,
“Hey there. How was your day?” he asked, before waving to a few of his friends from the Junior Varsity football team. Two were his close friends and came barreling down the steps toward them.
“Mac dude! We didn’t know you were with Kari here.” Jax, a tall boy from her science class, all but shouted. He had the brown hazy eyes and blonde tipped black hair. Grinning at his friend, he looked back at Kari.
“Kari you know this doofus?” Mac asked, receiving a playful punch in the arm.
“Yea man! She’s helps me in Science.” Jax grinned boyishly. Mac shook his head before turning toward the smirking man next to Jax.
“Kari this is the smarter of the two, Andy.” Kari smiled at the blonde green-eyed man. He wasn’t as tall as Mac or Jax but pretty close and he had deviousness about him. “Andy this is my girlfriend, Kari.”
“Howdy.” She smiled with a small wave before turning to see the Varsity come trotting out. All three of the guys started cheering their fellow football players as the band began to play. Kari covered her ears with a grin playing across her face. Mac looked down at the grinning girl next to him and laughed.
Once the band had finished playing the national anthem, he pulled her over to sit down, away from the rambunctious football players and some of their girlfriends. Pulling her hoodie over her head, she looked around to see the stands were filled with the school students and parents and town’s people. Bringing her eyes back, they rested on the guy looking down at her with a grin.
“What?” She asked, with an amused look on her face.
“Oh. Nothing.” He smirked and turned back to the game.
“Hey! You can’t do that! It’s not fair!” She giggled before pulling her hands up to her mouth and blowing warm air on them. Taking a long slow breath, she got up and turned, “I’m going to go get some hot chocolate. Want some?”
“I’ll go with you.” He replied and followed her down the stands. He took her hand once more with a smile down at her . Leaning down, he whispered in her ear as they weaved their way through the crowds. “You look beautiful.” She gave him a quirked eyebrow with a slight blush.
“Boy, you might need your eyes checked.” She shook her head with a grin hiding.
“Nope. I got twenty-twenty vision!”
“Then you are just…”
“You don’t know. When I say it, I mean it.” He replied before they took their spot in the long lines. She put her hands in his pockets as she leaned against his chest and put her head on his shoulder.
“You cold?” He asked as they stood in the middle of the line.
“Yes. I’m freezing.” And as she said those words, her teeth began to chatter. He chuckled lightly before wrapping his arms around her and kissing her forehead.
Once the line moved up and they received their hot chocolate, they went to stand near the fence. Only to be called at, “Kari Lu!” Kari froze and her eyes widened as she recognized the voice calling out to her. Turning, she was attacked in a hug by her close friend, Terri. Terri was an average, well as average as you can get for her, drama student with a crazy sense of humor and protection. Standing at a five one height with short choppy hair and hazel eyes, she had a twisted mind.
“Hey Terri.” Kari replied nervously, casting a helpless look to Mac who had a grin on his face.
“I thought you said you were going out with a friend.” Terri glared at her friend with her hands on her hips with a ruthless expression. Kari sighed before pulling Mac’s hand into her s and pushing him slightly forward.
“Terri, this is Mac. He’s my boyfriend.” And as soon as those words were out of her mouth, Terri was on him like a dog and steak.
“What are your intentions with my Kari? You better treat her nice or I’ll castrate you with a spork! What do you do for a living? Are you taking care of her? What about child care?” Terri bombarded him with questions until two sets of hands pulled her back and put her behind them. The one on the left had soft blonde hair the was in two pig tails trailing down her chest and a hat pulled over her head. Her bangs were pushed to the side, showing her bright blue eyes. Jamie, the responsible one of Kari’s friends. The second had short hair, shorter then Terri’s that had blue highlights and sandy blonde hair. Her eyes were blue speckled gray and her bangs were swept across her forehead. She had seven piercings total and the most amazing personality. Helen, the rebellious friend of Kari’s, had a great sense of humor and read as much a librarian. And that is saying something.
“Terri. Down.” Jamie snapped with a smirk before turning to watch Helen greet the boyfriend.
“Hey there! I’m Helen the most amazing and bestest friend of Kari’s and this is Jamie. The sweet heart.” Helen grinned and watched as Mac broke out in a grin.
“Mac. Nice to meet the crazy friends I’ve heard so much about.” He greeted. Terri ran around her two holders and jumped on Kari’s back.
“You missy are in big trouble!” Terri scolded with a finger in her face, though it was at a rather odd angle. “Why did we not know of your dating?” Kari looked at Mac with a lazy smile before answering.
“You.”
“ME?! I’m appalled.”
“I’m kidding. Sort of. We wanted a little time to ourselves before you all started.” Kari replied simply. Jamie nodded knowingly while Helen smirked deviously. Terri only gaped.
“Us? Start something? Never.”
“Liar.” Kari laughed and dropped Terri, who knew it was coming and landed on her feet. Mac laughed before Kari put her hand in his and waved to the girls.
“Bye guys. Talk with you guys later tonight.”
“If you don’t get pregnant first.” Helen grumbled. Kari turned around and threw her empty cup at her while sticking her tongue out at her. Terri waved at the couple walking.
“Bye My Dear!” Mac stopped Kari and ran over to Terri and the others.
"My intentions are to keep her safe, happy, and mine." And off he went with wave. Terri grinned while Helen shook her head and Jamie smiled happily.
"She's not yours! She's mine." Terri called after them but knew they didn't hear and began to mutter to herself until Jamie handed her the bag of candy. Terri instantly brightened up and followed the lady with the bag of candy.
“Sorry about them. They’re… how do you say… Protective?” Kari replied nervously. Mac only chuckled, “I can see where you get your sense of humor.”
“Why thank you My dear.” Kari giggled. They went to sit on a hill facing the field. She sat down next to him and pulled her hands inside her sleeves and started breathing on them.
"What did you say to them?' She asked.
"Nothing."
"You aren't going to tell me are you?"
"Nope."
"Grr. Meanie." Her teeth began to chatter as the cold began to set in around her.
“Even after the hot chocolate you’re cold?” he laughed.
“Yes. I swear, I’m cold blooded.” She stuttered. He looked down at her and smiled deviously to himself.
“You’re lips are cold, you know what would help?” He asked with a smirk.
“Yea. More Hot chocolate.” She smiled as her eyes came to his.
“Nope. Body heat.”
“Oh?” She smiled with a hint of mischievousness. He leaned down and brushed a soft kiss over her lips before looking at her once more, silently asking if it was alright. She responded by pressing her lips to his and putting her hands on his neck. He jerked back with a laugh.
“You’re hands are freezing. You weren’t joking.” He laughed.
“I told you.” She pouted. He pulled her cold hands back to his neck and smirked.
“I think I can deal with the cold hands.”
“What about the crazy friends?”
“That too.”
“What about me?” She whispered as she pressed a kiss against the corner of his mouth.
“I don’t know. You want to convince me?”
“I might just have to.” His lips found hers and they shared another kiss, along with some warmth thank god, Kari thought.
