Tomboy

In the winter of ’95, back in mid or late December,

There was a marathon on FOX that I ended up watching all day long.

At first, I thought the show was stupid, this I remember,

I thought the whole thing was over the top silly. Boy, I was wrong.

What sort of show, one might ask, could confound me this way?

Not just any show, it was Beast Wars, that old Transformers offshoot,

And yeah, I fell in love with it, okay?

Years and years ago, I’d given Barbie and My Little Pony the boot.

It was kind of awkward as a girl growing up with a thing for robots.

When everyone was into Bedazzlers, Hello Kitty, and Lisa Frank,

I was more occupied with (no kidding, these were my thoughts)

Figuring out how to transform a little robot dude into a little tank.

I didn’t need dolls, or makeup, or glitter, that had never been my deal,

Instead, give me something with tires, plasma cannons, and a steering wheel.
