Six Years
in memorial of those who died
in the 9/11 attack
-
Six years have passed, and we still cannot choke down
the irony that nine-eleven is so different from nine-one-one.
Six years have passed, and we still haven't found
the shards of hearts that have been broken or
the remains of battles we have won.
-
Six years have passed, and each second that passes
is another grain of sand added to the weight
we still have not managed to shed.
Six years have passed, and the rains that gently
trickle through the ruins still run
blood-red.
-
Six years have passed, and many more are to come,
so let's chisel our words into stone
and not hearts.
Six years have passed, and I think it's time
we wipe away the dust on our smiles
for a new start.
-
we still can't let you go yet.
-
Admittedly the rhyming is a little strange. Please comment.
