Love ain’t just a four letter word
-SUMMERY-
Kristin found out the hard way about true love when teen superstar Ryu Daniels came into her life. He didn’t make it very hard for her. He was just starting at her school, was in her grade, and was in nearly all her classes. It didn’t help none that they now lived right next door to each other either. But it was all purely by accident. They didn’t plan that…or the fact that he would come to fall madly head over heels in love with her-and that he would do anything and everything in his power to capture the one heart he has set his sights on. Hers.
Chapter 1: Deemed enemy of all with satisfactory minds
I walked out of the girls toilets holding my soggy homework. I should’ve at least thanked her for spilling the entire contents of my lunch on it-before class even started for the day-before I walked off with it. By ‘her’, I meant Madison Fletcher. My bestest friend in the whole wide world. I, of course, was Kristin Walker. Also known as Kris. We were two absolutely normal people in our private high school. Yeah, right, totally believable. Madison was a pretty looking blonde with all the control over me. I was a wild animal that needed constant care. Just kidding, I wasn’t a wild animal…but I needed to be watched in case I hurt myself accidentally. I was an Asian/blonde. I wasn’t dumb; but it depended on what I wasn’t supposed to be dumb at. I was a renowned computers expert actually, in all of the school and community. I could hack and track just about anything or anybody. Everybody in the school knew it. I even out shined the nerds at it. So really, other than that, we were two normal teenagers. I was still pretty dumb though.
I rounded the corner and bumped into someone. I looked up. It was Maddie and she was holding hers and my books for class.
“It’s fine. See?” I joked, waving my homework in front of her face. She looked stricken at the sight of it. I rolled my eyes. “Its fine, Maddie.”
“What’s fine?” drawled a deep voice behind me. I turned around smiling. I faced two guys staring at me with equal grins on their faces.
I answered him, brandishing my homework at the same time. “Do you really wanna know, Riley?” Riley shuddered and gestured the guy next to him.
“I guess not. But Shane might.”
The younger kid next to him shook his head so hard that his long thin braid fell out. “Nah ah. No way Riley. Leave me outta this.”
I turned to Maddie again. “Brothers.” I joked. But it was true, Riley and Shane Owens were brothers, believe it or not. Shane turned to me.
“Hey!”
I laughed. “I’m joking Shay.”
He pouted. Maddie laughed with me but I knew there was a second reason to it as well. She wanted to leave a good impression on Riley, whom she had only just met, recently, thanks to me.
“C’mere Shane. I’ll red your braid for you.”
Shane complied and trotted over to her. She started to plait his hair back together for his trademark Star Wars type braid. I picked up my books from where I had left it from the ground just as the bell rang. I walked to homeroom with both Madison and Shane in tow. Riley left for his own homeroom. I only had one class with him and that was history. I had every single class but one with Maddie. I had all but three classes with Shane.
I slipped into my designated seat every year and waited for the teacher. I was at the window about a row from the back. Shane was next to me while Maddie was on the other side of the room. I noticed that on the other side of the room one row back from Maddie was a new guy. We rarely had anyone new to our school and even rarer for someone new in our homeroom so it was still slightly exciting. He was leaning back on his chair with ease and had a small yet playful smile on his face. His face was curved in a good way and his face was slightly boyish. You could tell with one look that he was a major player. His grin and apparent ease at the girls all flocked around him trying to sneak in an introduction insisted on it. When our teacher, Mr. Wiltsenshire arrived, he started to arrange us in alphabetical order. Why the man did it was a mystery. Every year, there always was at least one person who asked why.
“Why bother sir?”
Ahhh, there you go. Tradition fulfilled. He noticed the new guy after a while. He nodded at him.
“Hey, you, at the back. Are you new?”
“Have you seen me around here before?” God, this guy had spunk.
“No. What’s your name then?”
“Ryu.”
“Last name?”
“Daniels.”
I ended up with him sitting in front of me in every single class. I only realized this after only about a whole month of school. Damn…I mean, sure, I wanted to kinda get to know him for the first five minutes but the way he acted afterwards changed my thoughts of him. I had deduced one thing…and a few others. He was SUPER rich. Which was pretty obvious seeing as he had a sexy ass Porsche as a spare car, apparently his usual car was Lamborghini, and body guards that basically followed him everywhere unless on his command. He was an arrogant, stuck up, flirtatious player. At lunch, I had Maddie running full speed up to me with the Owen brother’s trailing after her.
“OH MY GOD!! GUESS WHAT KRIS?!”
I seriously feared for my safety as she continued to barrel full speed towards me. But she slid to a stop as she neared. A feat I would have thought of as impossible until now. But then, she might not even be human. Hmmm…
“What?”
“THE NEW GUY’S A MOVIE STAR!!”
“What?” as you should know by now, I’m not that smart other than my field of expertise around computers. My brain was a bit slow. Hah, a bit, no way. It runs at the speed of a turtle with arthritis.
“The new guy is a move star!”
“The new guy?”
“Ryu Daniels! Duh!”
I nodded. “Oh, him.”
I now knew who she was talking about. But that didn’t mean that I knew what she was talking about. Ha, just joking, of course I knew what she was talking about. I’m not that dumb…just very very close to it.
The new guy was a movie star? Wow, that was unexpected. But did that mean he really had to act like he does? Oh well, I’ll be the odd one who doesn’t admire him then. Not so hard seeing as I’m already the odd one most of the time. Hah. I’ll just act normal and I’ll seem odd already. Perfect.
I pulled out of my thoughts when all talking died down. I looked around to find what everyone was staring at just as the dining room doors opened and Ryu walked in with a massive bodyguard by his side. Maddie, of course, has to choose that exact moment to push me roughly, to get me out of a daydream that I was already out of. I went flying to the front with a scream. She looked horrified as I sailed on a collision course with Ryu. Luckily, the forces of her push ran out just as I reached him so just as I was about to land and break a few precious bones; Ryu caught me under the arms and lifted me to my feet with a nice smile. Psht. Yeah right. That’s what I would like to think and what I would like you to think too. More like I landed on my butt and skidded slowly to a stop right in front of him. Which was exactly what happened, right? Yep, totally. But he did extend down a hand to help me up and he did smile…but it was because he was laughing at me so it wasn’t nice.
Damn you Maddie.
I walked nimbly back to our usual table where the guys were all sitting. My butt was aching and it hurt like hell to move. It hurt even more to sit, but I managed it. Eventually. When the laughing had died down completely and I was back to my happy little self again, I had to let Maddie off the hook, because I wasn’t one to really keep grudges, for humiliating me in front of the whole school. Again. Yes, I said ‘again’. You want to know why? The last time I was laughed at by the whole school was her fault, completely. I was eating my lovely lunch when she backed up from behind hard enough to whack me in the head which made my head go smack bang right into my ‘lovely’ lunch. Sounds fun, yeah? Yeah. Only thing is you gotta walk around smelling like pizza for the whole day. I did. My toll for having a friend like Madison Fletcher.
I was laughing and joking with my other friend Katie and Maddie and Riley and Shane back at our table when all of a sudden they stopped and all stared behind me. Then I felt a presence behind me. I felt my hear sinking. Oh boy. I knew exactly who was behind me. There was only one guy in the whole school that I knew could shut Katie up that quickly. She told me so. But I’ll give you three guess anyway. Ryu. Ryu. And Ryu. Ding ding ding, you’ve won a million dollars!! Bingo. I turned around and looked into his smiling face. He put his lunch tray down next to me and sat down with it. He smiled at me again.
“Hi.”
“What are you doing here?”
“Sitting here, next to you, on this bench, at this table. I thought it was pretty obvious.”
“Well fine then, why?”
“Because I like you.”
I choked on my lunch. Pizza again. Damn. “What?”
“I just said so didn’t I?” I like you.”
“What?!”
“I know you heard me the first time. Stop saying that.”
I looked at him suspiciously. “Is this a joke? Something you thought up to keep yourself amused? Cause it’s not funny.”
“No, it isn’t. Would you like it to be?”
I glared at him. “So you are joking. Get lost. Now.”
He gave a loud dramatic sigh. Apparently, a movie star, remember? “Alright, alright. Relax.”
I continued to glare at him. “Well?”
“Just listen ok? Listen.”
I nodded. “Fine.”
“Look, I know that you and I don’t know each other very well. Ok, barely at all I guess. I like you and I know it sounds like I’m making it up but I’m not. So all I’m saying is I want to ask you is you want to go see a movie with me on Friday, two days away. Your choice. I’ll pay.”
I stared at him. As if he saw me hesitate, he hurried on.
“Um, if you want, you know, you could bring these guys along. A couple of friends. Just think about I, ok? I‘ll ask you on Friday.”
With one last bite and one last smile my way, he stood up and left with his rubbish. His hand was up in a small wave to acknowledge his goodbye. I looked down at my lunch and saw my half eaten pizza for lunch. I lifted my head back up and watched Ryu. As he was walking past the popular table, they all waved and motioned for him to join them. He threw his rubbish towards the bin carelessly but it fell short of the target. He nodded at a friend who completed the shot before sitting down next to Douglas, a popular jock. I saw him tilt his head over slightly in my direction. I saw his eyes flick to the side. I turned away and stared at my not-that-cold-but-will-be-freezing-in-about-five-seconds pizza. I couldn’t stomach it anymore. I shoved the plate over to Shane, where he happily gulped it down in a flash.
Katie looked at me disbelievingly. Maddie, on the other hand, was gaping at me like an idiot. Both regained their voices at the same time.
“Oh my god!!”
“Oh my gosh!!”
I rolled my eyes. “Can’t you guys think of anything else more stupid to express your feelings? Those three words are so year two when used one after the other.”
They stared at me. “What?”
“Never mind.”
Katie threw a chip at me that Riley caught and ate. “Don’t you understand? Ryu Daniels just asked you out!”
I shrugged. “So?”
“So?! Do you not understand?! He asked you out. Girl, don’t you know how many girls want to be asked out by him? You just got noticed by the most popular guy ever!”
I chanced another glance at Ryu. As if he knew I was staring at him, he turned around and looked at me. He grinned and waved. I turned away and muttered darkly to myself. Stupid boy and his psychic abilities. Douglas, the jock sitting next to Ryu, looked for who Ryu was waving at. He saw me and thought I was looking at him so he stared. Then he muttered something to everyone else. Another jock laughed and shouted over to me.
“Hey…you!”
But then he stopped. Probably didn’t know what else to say with his walnut sized brain. A normal jock trait. Naturally, I gave him the finger. I was stubborn and I got angry easily. It was probably the Irish in my blood that did it. And most of the time, it got me into trouble. I knew I would get something for it. I wasn’t disappointed.
As I left my seat and walked past their table with Maddie, a popular blonde from the varsity cheerleading team stuck out her foot and tripped me. I fell to the ground with a painful thud. Maddie saw the whole thing and rushed to my aid. Unfortunately for me, Ryu also saw and came to my rescue. As he walked past the same blonde that tripped me, he stomped on her toes. He gave a small smile to Maddie but when he turned back to the stupid bitchy blond; his face was full of fake sympathy and regret. But she soaked it all in. See, stupid.
“I’m sorry, Shannah. My apologies are, of course, rightfully yours.” He smiled a dazzling golden boy smile before kneeling down and helping me up. I growled to myself at my bad luck.
I blame it all on karma.
Just before school ended last year, I had stolen Anthony Michaels’ pet gerbil and left it outside accidentally. So the dumb thing had to wander out onto the road and was run over by a car. I discovered it after school, it looked like a cardboard gerbil by then, and the maniac that ran over it probably went back and forth on the poor thing, judging by the repetitive patterns of tire skid marks on it and the road itself.
Damn karma.
A/N: Ok, how was this? Please review! I need ideas to continue this urgently! I’ll review for you if you do the same to me. Thanks for reading this anyway!
