Sitting atop a gigantic
mountain,
Lying in front of me
are the great plains,
Nestled behind me is a
quaint valley,
Up above I stare at the
open sky,
And beside me flows a
big blue river,
The trees around me
rustle in the wind.
The only sound that
remains is from the wind,
Nature is the lone
sound on this mountain,
Downward flows the
babbling, icy river,
Snaking its way down to
the open plains,
Where the birds fly
happily through the sky,
Making their homes in
the quiet valley.
Untouched by the hands
of man, this valley,
Sits disturbed only by
the gentle winds,
Smiled upon by the sun
and by the sky,
Rain falls frequently
between the mountains,
Leaving them wet,
unlike the dry plains,
Whose only hopes are
for a full river.
A few brave souls have
rafted this river,
But never have they
found this big valley,
All they know are their
cities on the plains,
Where they have no
protection from the wind,
They are brave enough
to climb this mountain,
They can only dream of
the crystal sky.
Unpolluted by man, a
perfect sky,
Matched in beauty only
by the river,
Protected by the
ominous mountain,
Lush, plentiful and
green is this valley,
The flowers pollinated
by the wind,
Completely the opposite
of the plains.
Dry and desert-like are
the lonely plains,
Trapped alone under an
unforgiving sky,
Plagued by the anger
and relentless wind,
Surviving only thanks
to the river,
Not loved by the gods
like this lush valley,
A happy valley, hidden
by the mountains.
Nestled in the
mountains it is hidden,
A lush valley above the
wind-swept plains,
With a flowing river,
under blue skies.
A/N: I'm not sure what the name of this form of poem is. But it was another one I wrote in a creative writing class. The assignment was to write a poem using 6 things (mine are obviously: river, sky, mountain, valley, wind, plains) and then use each to end each of the phrases in a specific pattern. In the last stanza, you are to use all 6 things in three lines.
