I start

With one glass

Then another

After three I try and stop.

Thinking,

“I really have to wake early tomorrow”.

And after 10 minutes

My mouth is dry.

Not remedied with water or juice

But for that strong bitter taste

Of my good friend jack.

So I fix myself another glass.

I say,

“This is it for tonight”.

But I know

Once the glass is emptied

It soon will be filled.

Over and over,

Night after night,

Drinking,

Is a losing battle.
