Extra long chapter for the end of the story. Thanks for all your reviews! Over 50 reviews! I’m amazed at you all. Thanks for sticking with it and I hope the ending isn’t too disappointing.

His Brother, My Rival

If what Takahashi had said was true… Shunya had chosen me, right?

I didn’t say anything to my brother that day. I decided it was better to let him make the next move. He knew how I felt and after days of avoiding me, I figured I should let him be. Also, my own emotions were still in a jumble.

Koami hadn’t been to school recently either making me uneasy. Perhaps now that I knew of her feelings, she thought things would be too awkward between us. And now that Takahashi was leaving… everything felt so lonely.

I walked into the student council room looking down at my feet only to catch sight of some quick movements before me. Morita had jumped to the side and Sugase had sat down in a chair quickly. The secretary wiped his mouth and Morita was a bright shade of red. It was apparent they had been kissing. It made me feel a little annoyed that things between them were going so well while my own love life wasn’t…

“E-Excuse me.” A quiet voice said and there was Sunada followed by Kobayashi.

“Hi everyone!” Kobayashi greeted. “Has the meeting started yet? Kiku’s going to join us today.” She said quickly.

“Y-yes.” The shy girl nodded.

“Welcome class representative!” Morita said suddenly by her side.

“P-p-president.” She stuttered.

“Today we’re going to discuss plans for sport’s day!” He announced standing on the table.

“Please don’t stand on the table, President.” Sugase reprimanded.

Sunada looked shyly over to me and I gulped guiltily still remembering her crying running form when I told her I could not return her feelings. “Greetings D-Daisuke.” She said sitting down next to me.

“Sunada?” I wondered. There was an awkward silence between us as Sugase and Kobayashi’s attention was on Morita dancing on the table. “Are you…” I started not really knowing what to say. “I mean… is it okay?”

She smiled while blushing. “I’m okay.” She said. “Daisuke has someone else he likes, right?” She said looking down. I was amazed. Even though I had rejected her, she seemed happy somehow.

“Ichiro, don’t be mad!” Morita said jumping down from the table.

“It’s amazing we ever get anything done.” Kobayashi giggled.

“Kei…” I groaned.

“Let’s start the meeting President.” Sugase nodded.

“Yes!” Morita said standing at attention. “Secretary Ichiro, record our minutes! Record our objectives! Let’s come up with a motto!” He said suddenly. I rolled my eyes. Ever since Morita had started going out with Sugase, he spent most of the meetings addressing the secretary which took attention off of me. Not that it really mattered but it added to my loneliness even with the exciting plans Morita had for sport’s day…

I waited for a sign from Shunya. So far, it seemed as if Takahashi’s words were untrue as Shunya hadn’t given me a sign that he had any interest in me. And then surprisingly that sign came at dinner one night. I was eating when I caught Shunya staring at me.

“What is it?” I wondered.

“Nothing.” He said coldly and turned his attention back to his food.

“When is that girl going to come over again?” Our mother wondered. “Does she have any specific names picked out for kids yet?”

“Mom…” I groaned.

“Toshiko…” Our father reprimanded.

“Well I didn’t have a daughter, did I?” She looked over at us. “Just two lovely boys… Hurry up and get married so I can have daughter-in-laws.” She said dreamily.

“Mom…” I sighed.

“Toshiko…”

Then I felt Shun’s hand grip my own. I looked over at him in surprise and he was looking away blushing. I felt my pulse quicken as he held my hand under the table for a minute. Then he got up and quickly excused himself from the table.

It was to be another stormy night as the wind outside told of oncoming rain. Yet, I didn’t need this excuse to make my way to Shunya’s room because wasn’t his hand grip under the table excuse enough? “Shunya?” I said knocking on his door.

He opened it and dragged me inside. “What?” He hugged me. “What’s wrong?” I said hugging him back.

“Daisuke.” He pulling back with a serious expression on his face. “I know I haven’t been… eh… clear about who I like.”

Here it was… Was what Takahashi had said correct after all?

He clung to me and I put my arms around him feeling like I should comfort him. “I thought about it a lot and it’s you, onii-chan.” He said softly.

“Me?”

“I know you’ll always take care of me and be there for me. I can trust you more than anyone else…”

“Shunya…”

“And I don’t care anymore that you’re my brother. That stuff means nothing. Daisuke…” He choked. “I… you…” Shun had always had trouble expressing his emotions. And right then I thought he was really cute.

I hugged him close to me. “Shh…” I hushed. “You don’t have to say anymore. I understand. I love you, that much I know is true and I just want you to be happy.”

“Thanks.” He said lamely glancing up at me. Then he looked to the side blushing. “So… I’m willing to pick up where we left off last time…” He muttered scratching his nose awkwardly.

I smiled. He was being so brave. I really did love him… I kissed the top of his head. “We don’t have to do anything you don’t want to.” I said.

“But you said you wanted to be lovers.” He said in a voice that was almost indifferent. He stared up at me with his cold eyes. Same ole Shun…

“And you’re okay with that?” I wondered.

“Yes.” He seemed sure enough. “What happened last time won’t happen again.” He assured. “I won’t run away this time…”

“But…”

He grabbed my arm. “Why are you being so hesitant? Kiss me already!” He said looking up at me. I was happy to oblige but something felt off…

We started making out in his room. Eventually, he had his shirt off. I kissed him tenderly ready to make him mine. Shun was mine… right?

So why did this feel so unreal?

I kissed his neck and started leaving kisses down his chest. He called out a name that at first I didn’t recognize. I stopped and sat up.

“Why did you stop?” He said hoarsely sitting up next to me.

I see… he wasn’t aware of it yet… I smiled to myself.

Shun was my beloved brother, that much was true. I loved him much more than just a brother - that was also true. And he was here with me now and willing to give me his body but…

I smiled to myself. Who knew I could be so stoic about losing. It was kind of funny in a way. Shun was so cute but he wasn’t even aware of his own feelings.

“Daisuke?” He said angrily. “I said I was…”

I kissed him softly on the lips. “Now you say my name but that wasn’t the name you said before.” I mentioned.

“What? What are you…” He said thinking back but then he seemed to realize. “Oh… shit…” He cursed.

The name he had called out was Takahashi’s. I couldn’t help but laugh at the irony.

“I don’t understand. Why did I say that…? I choose you… he’s…”

“It’s because you love him, don’t you?”

“Impossible.” He spat. “He hasn’t even been to school! He’s a coward. I don’t care about that loser. He’s an unreliable, scatterbrained, immature jackass…”

I shook my head. “He’s an interesting person.” I said remembering that Shun had told me the same thing a while back.

“He’s your rival! Why are you defending him? I said I chose you Daisuke-nii! You’re much more reliable than he is!”

“Look, Shun.” I said dryly. “I love you. I really do. I was somewhat attracted to Takahashi and I was even touched by Koami’s feelings but I’ve always loved you. I’m really happy that you say I’m the most reasonable man for you, but it seems your heart has chosen the other way. This isn’t something you can figure out by logic; it’s just something in your gut.” I said tapping him on the chest where his heart beat.

He looked up at me with wide eyes. “You’re saying that I love Takahashi? Quit joking around.”

“Go to him.” I ordered.

“What?”

“He’s moved back to his old town.”

“What!” Shun yelled. “That bastard moved without telling me?” I gave him a weak shrug and he looked away. “No wonder he hasn’t been to school!” He realized. “Well I’m not going after him. He deserves whatever he gets back in his old town.”

“Shun.” I said grabbing his face.

“Onii-san?”

I sighed. He was so cute. I had to fight the urge to make him mine right then and there. “I love you.” I whispered.

“Then why are you telling me to go to someone else…” He said coldly.

“Who knows?” I said and walked out of his room. It thundered outside. And for the first time since our childhood, I did not sleep in my brother’s room on a stormy night.

Eventually, Shun did make the journey to Takahashi’s old home a couple of days later. I covered for him by telling mom, he was at a friend’s. And then I knew that there was something that I had to do too.

Currently, I was in front of a rather large but worn house with the name plate “Koami” hanging on the wall. Before I could even ring the bell someone came up behind me. “Why, hello there.” A sultry tone sounded into my ear.

I turned quickly to see a man with blond hair up in a high pony tail smiling at me. He grabbed my face and leaned close to me, peering at me oddly.

“What are you…”

“Hmm… well you are a handsome person.” His hand left my chin and traveled down my chest. “What’s this?” He said upon seeing my school uniform. “Hmm…” He stepped back examining me. “For a high school kid, you’ve got a nice looking body.”

“Um…” I was extremely uncomfortable around this man. “I’m looking for Koami…” I started.

“That’s me.” He interrupted with a seductive smirk. “Koami Natsumi.”

“No, Koami Ryoko.”

“Ryoko-chan?” He burst out laughing then.

“Uh… what?” I said confused at his behavior. “You’re looking for my little sister?” He watched me from the corner of his eyes almost seductively. I could have sworn that I could see pheromones… Suddenly, he had me against the wall.

“Excuse me!” I shouted wondering whether to be angry or afraid. Who knew Koami had such a strange brother?

“Now why would my sister be friends with a gay man?” He said lowly smirking up at me.

“Natsu-nii.” A monotone voice said as the gate besides us slid open. “Please leave Dai-kun alone.” Koami said quietly.

“Imouto, you are aware of his sexual preference?” He said still holding me against the wall.

“Yes.”

“And yet you…”

She blew her nose into a handkerchief then. “Leave us alone, Natsu-nii.” She said simply stuffing the handkerchief into her pocket. She was angry and yet she still spoke in a monotone voice.

Her brother Natsumi sighed. “Well Handsome, if you’re ever in the mood to try me out…” He winked. “I’m always available.” He said looking me over one more time.

“Natsu…” Koami Ryoko complained.

“Alright. Alright! I just came to get changed for work anyway.” He said slipping into the house.

“Sorry, Dai-kun.” She coughed and then cleared her throat. It was obvious she was fighting a cold. “That’s my third oldest brother. He flirts with everyone.” She explained. “But why are you here?” She asked leading me into the house.

“Well you haven’t been to school in a while…” I started.

“I was planning to go back tomorrow.” She said simply. “I’ve been sick.”

“I see. I thought maybe…” I stopped, feeling too awkward to continue.

“What is it?” She wondered in a stuffy but still monotone voice.

I sighed. “Koami…” I started. “I’ve lost Shun…”

“Is he okay?” She said suddenly alarmed.

“That’s not what I meant. I mean he’s chosen Takahashi over me.”

“Good for Ma-kun.” She said and then realized what she had said. “And not good for you…” She finished. “What will you do?”

“It’s okay. I want Shun to be happy after all but… I didn’t really come here to talk about that.” She looked at me confused. “I was worried you were skipping school because of me.” I admitted.

“I’m fine.” She shrugged. “I am already aware of where I stand in my situation.” Some reason, even though she said it without much emotion, it still sounded sad. I grabbed her hands.

“Koami, I really am grateful for your friendship. You’ve accepted me for who I was regardless of my own insecurities or sinful thoughts.”

“Dai-kun?”

“I just wanted to tell you that not now… but maybe later I’ll be able to return your feelings.”

She shook her head. “Because I remind you of Shun?” She wondered.

I blinked. She did remind me of Shun but that wasn’t it. “No, because you remind me of you.” I said and then realized that probably didn’t make sense but I decided to leave it at that. I bowed. “See you at school tomorrow.” I said and began to leave.

“Dai-kun!” She called out before I could get to the door.

“Yes?”

“Thank you.” She said and for once her voice wasn’t completely monotone.

I sighed feeling completely drained as I walked back home. It seemed as if so much had happened and I had lost so much in such a short amount of time. I didn’t know what the future held, but I couldn’t help but feel that everything would be ok.

I love my brother and I know its taboo. But he doesn’t love me back. He loves someone else. Even so, I think I’ll be alright.

Names: (Random stuff you might not know or care about, ie. The special section that will be shown one last time.)

I chose mostly all the character’s names quite randomly and Koami is the only name that actually has any meaning to it. “Ko” means little and “ami” means friend and thus I guess you can translate her name to mean little friend which she was sort of a little friend to Daisuke. Everyone else’s names don’t really have much to do with their characters. It is interesting to note that Takahashi hates his first name of Masato because he thinks it’s too feminine.

Koami’s brothers are all named after the seasons. I initially didn’t give them names because I didn’t think they would be in the story but then the flirty Natsumi showed up to make Daisuke uncomfortable. Her brother’s names from oldest to youngest are Yuki, Akihito, Natsumi, and Haruta. Ryoko got her name from someone her mother knew who died at a young age.

I’m still not sure if I will post a story on Soh. I still haven’t made up my mind. (Meaning I haven’t gathered up the courage to post it?) But if you’re looking for something a bit more cuter and a lot fluffier, check out my newest shonen-ai Shichihou no Fluff – an ultra cute story surrounding a rather odd school newspaper staff.
