Left to Wonder

Your heart says that you love,

Your head says, "It's too late"

Your tripping over convenience

And passing up our fate.

I still think we have a shot

You won't even give it a try

I can't talk to anyone

My poetry is my battle cry.

I look in the mirror

And see a little of you in my eyes

You haven't even called,

I am so bad at goodbyes.

How do I say goodbye to my heart?

Pick up the pieces and continue along

When you are there at every turn,

In every beat of every song.

I deserve to be by myself

Missing the one who got away

But you're under my skin

And there to stay.

I may be crazy

And loving you may not be right

But when you're so sure

It's impossible to give up the fight.

So instead, I put on a smile

When I'm dying inside

So no one sees the emptiness

I try so desperately to hide.

I knew it was a fantasy

It was all just in my head

And then you proved it to me

By your words, and what was left unsaid.
