Days on the Beach

I’ve lived my share of flash-flood disasters
But to ensure your safety, I’ll be willing to live through yours
It’s not fun when wave after wave crushes my lungs
They gently roll off the shore long after, the sweet aftertaste
But I’ll always have my opinion, the only thing not washed away
I’m too grounded to be rash, but I’m anywhere but grounded
in your wake, unless it’s 2am and my mom finds us on the phone
Then I’m pounded, but sand is so much softer

Now the only thing I wonder is if you think I’m being literal
