“Frozen”

What a predicament. It was a crisp, white, beautiful winter afternoon. The mid-day sun was blaring, miniature rainbows sparkling from icicles. The white expanse reflected the sun’s light into the eyes of the unluckiest person in town. Why is he unlucky you ask? Well, currently, he was tossing all his cookies at the site of a horrific murder.

All he had been doing was taking a peaceful walk when, Ta Da! He looks over and there’s the corpse in its dismembered glory.

The pristine snow was tainted with blood, the cold helping it retain its deep red color. To say that it was gross would be quite an understatement, as saying that hot chocolate lavishly decorated with fresh whipped cream was not enjoyable. While there are the choice few who cannot find it in themselves to enjoy the aforementioned drink, there’s probably the same number of people who would think that the mutilated corpse was beautiful.

Well, it was a work of art, it its own way. The limbs were slashed all along their surfaces down to the bone, giving a red, white and blue patriotic tiger effect. Dried, red streams snaked across down into the snow from the gashes, giving even more pattern to the pale, dead, freezer-burned skin.

Some of the wounds, however, were filled. With what you ask? You really don’t want to know. Really. Ok, but I warned you…

The torso was cut open with an ‘X’ mark, as in an autopsy. The flaps of cut skin were skewered with broken, pointed ribs, holding the skin in place. And although one could not see more inside the body without prying the iced skin off the bones, it was obvious that the organs were missing.

As mentioned before, many of the slash wounds were filled. The intestines were sliced in what could be described as ‘bite size pieces’. If one squinted in the right way, from a certain angle, they looked like those tiny Oscar Mayer wieners you eat at cocktail parties. They conveniently fit in the wounds. Other organs, such as the liver were used in other creative ways.

For example, the liver was cut half, the two pieces currently protruding from the nostrils, getting thicker until it reached the chin. In a way, it made walrus-like tusks made out of Stanley Steamers (You know, Thomas the Tank Engines; bowl stuffers) frozen in place.

The eyes… The victim’s amber eyes solved the mystery of where the shattered pieces of rib were…

The victim had elephant ears. The lungs had been frozen, and blacked to the extent that it was only the basic shape that could help one assume what it was. How it had been stuffed into the ear cavity in the first place was a mystery, as just touching it would result in a broken piece in the perpetrator’s hand.

The hair on the victim’s head was caked with ice, giving the blond hair a white color. It was torn out in several places, blood pooling in the tiny holes where hair follicles once were.

Last but not least was the heart. It was in the victim’s mouth, like a stuffed pig seen in the movies, an apple in its mouth. A knife was stabbed through the red organ, protruding from the neck as a Columbian neck-tie would.

Near the hilt of the knife was a note with a single phrase written. The white paper was stained with blood, but the black-inked message came across quite clearly.

Revenge is a dish best served frozen.

A/N: This was a writing assignment for 'a story that takes place during winter'. I was feeling angsty today...
