My pride has been wounded,

My mind humbled.

I place a mask on my face,

To hide the grimace and pain.

It hurts to get up,

Do I get up?

Or do I stay down?

Words deceive me,

I can’t tell if they’re my own anymore.

But the mask remains

until I can dance in the rain.
