Selfish4more: Yes i am a girl but i didn't realize i wrote like one; how can you tell? You should post your stories, don't worry about what anyone else thinks; if they don't like it then they shouldn't read it, right? Microsoft Word is a wonderful program with an auto-spell checker, believe it or not my spelling isn't perfect.

Samantha: Thanks for the review, hopefully the ending will rock!

Now on with the story:)

The claret moon rose and the world became a barren wasteland, the buildings cracked; some crumbled to the ground and dust blew around her, to her right was a figure hidden by the dust storm, she reached out for them…

The alarm jolted her awake.

Alice blinked the sleep from her eyes and pulled herself out of bed. She had been with the Dove’s for two days already and her old head teacher was more than happy to hand her over to some other sucker at the new school they picked out. She started today. After a wash and brushing her teeth she headed down to the kitchen for breakfast, Rachel and Martin were waiting for her, the hairs on the back of her neck stood like before.

“Morning sweetheart.” Martin smiled from behind the paper.

“Morning…” She wore a pair of tatty, fading blue jeans and a loose t-shirt, the Dove’s had bought her all the essentials for school the day before and showed her where to catch the bus.

“Haven’t you got something smarter to wear?” Rachel asked.

“Not really.” Alice sat and plucked some toast from a plate in the middle of the table. She looked to the empty seat where Trevor would usually sit, finding it empty. “Has day-care been already?”

“Sure have.” Rachel smiled. “We’ll go shopping at the weekend, ok?”

“Ok…” The claret eyed girl stood and headed for the door. “I think I’ll head out now, don’t want to miss the bus.”

“Have a nice first day!” They chorused as she left. Alice shuddered as she strolled down the path and hooked her bag on her right shoulder, there was something about the Dove’s that she couldn’t place, perhaps it was the fact that they were so nice and she wasn’t used to it. She nodded to herself at that but still didn’t feel at ease.

Buy a hoodie. Alice thought to herself as she jumped off the bus. She had never had so many pairs of eyes on her at once; even at her last school nobody took any notice of her and when they did it was to make some remark, which soon stopped when she knocked out the school bully with one punch.

“Nice hair.” A girl and her friend giggled as they passed her and Alice subconsciously twirled a strand of her hair around her finger with a frown. She sighed and made her way to the reception area where a young woman sat sorting out files, she had dark hair and light green eyes and reminded Alice of Cindy, she wore a gray suit and thinned framed glasses which she peered over to study Alice.

“Can I help you?”

“Yeah I’m Alice…erm…Dove-I guess, I’m new here.”

The woman eyed the girl for a moment longer before tapping away, the printer came to life and Alice was handed two A4 sheets of paper. “Your schedule and map of the school, your first class is that way in room 0.12.”

“Thanks.” She went through the door on her left and counted the rooms as she strolled along, dodging large groups of students and avoiding eye contact with them. When she finally found the room she knocked on the door before opening it, her first period teacher was sat at his desk, he lad short black hair and gray eyes, he was wearing a black suit with no tie and the top two buttons of his shirt were undone, he was young, mid-thirties and smiled brightly at her. “Mr. Hill?”

“Hi, you must be Alice.”

She nodded and the bell let out a shrill ring, the other students piled into the room and stared at Alice like she was a circus freak. She adjusted her bag on her shoulder and gazed out of the window.

“Alright class!” Hill clapped his hands together. “This is Alice Dove, our new student.” There was a mumble of ‘hello’s’. “Oh come on it’s not that early in the morning! Alice, why don’t you tell us about yourself?”

“Do I have to?”

“Yes you do.” His smiled remained.

“Well…I grew up in an orphanage up until the other day when I was adopted, make fun I don’t care, I was the eldest there for the last six years or so and I helped look after the kids. I do martial arts and I floored the bully at my last school with one punch-he was twice my size.” She finished with a shrug and looked at Hill; he cleared his throat and turned to the class.

“Would anyone like to ask Alice a question?”

“What’s with the look?” Someone shouted from the back. Alice spotted a boy in the back row with short brown hair, brown eyes a sporting the schools football jacket, red and white. Alice knew he’d be a problem.

“Well, after ten years of scientific research, taking hair and blood samples, the government discovered that my mother was from Venus and my father from Mars, while you, according to your finger prints, are from Uranus, the shit-hole planet.” She quipped. Some of the class chuckled.

“Alice, language.” Hill almost snapped.

“Sorry.” She shrugged.

“Take a seat by the window.” Hill sighed. Alice took a seat by the window, rested her chin in her hand and stared out at the sky.

Alice was the last out of her final class before lunch; she learnt that the guy form her first class was named Josh and was the captain of the football team, which explained everything. She strolled through the corridors without any bother until Josh and two of his jock mates blocked her way. The guy on his left had sandy blond hair and light blue eyes, while the guy on his right had brownish-blond hair and hazel eyes; they looked down their noses at her with a sneer.

“You look like that Keogh guy, you got a brother?”

“Yeah, Mercury born by the way.” She smirked.

“Don’t get smart with us, bitch!” He snarled.

“Or what? You’ll football tackle me into the lockers? Dump me upside down in the trash? C’mon, be original for once I’ve seen it all.”

Josh grabbed her by the shirt in pulled her closer to him. “You don’t want to cross me, I’ve got more connections than you can even imagine, I can get you and your adopted family run out of town before you can say touchdown!”

“Using daddy’s money, huh?” She grabbed one of his fingers and bent it back until he had let go and was on his knees. Alice leaned in with a smirk. “Touchdown.”

Left and Right lunged for her but someone pulled her back before they could grab her. Josh slowly rose to his feet and glared at the pair. “Keogh.”

Alice turned her head to look at a boy with short claret hair and silver eyes, he was slightly taller than her and a bigger build; he released the back of her shirt and stepped in front of her. “What the?”

“Back off Josh, you should know better than to pick a fight with a girl.” Keogh warned; his voice calm and smooth.

“Keep out of this; this is between me and her!” Josh frowned and flexed his hand.

“And now it’s between you, her and me; so if you really want to try and take me again go ahead.” The silver eyed boy dared and the trio began to back away. Keogh smirked, took one step forward and the jocks took off down the corridor.

“We’ll get you, Keogh!” Josh shouted back and Keogh chuckled.

“Sure you will.” He turned, grabbed Alice’s hand and dragged her down the corridor. “C’mon.”

“H-Hey! Wait! Let go of me!” Alice tried to pull her hand free but Keogh had a firm grip. “Who the hell are you?!”

“Keogh Hill and you’re welcome.”

“Hill? As in?”

“Mr. Hill’s adopted son.” He stated without looking back at her.

“Can you stop dragging me for a second so we can talk?!” Alice dug her heels into the floor and Keogh let go of her hand. “Thank you…”

“What do you want to know?”

“Well…what’s with the…y’know?”

“I could ask you the same thing.” He crossed his arms over his chest.

“I was born with it.”

“That makes two of us.” He tilted his head to the side. “What’s your name?”

“Alice…Dove.” The name made the hair on the back of her neck stand on end and she shivered. “When were you adopted?”

“A few years ago, you?”

“The other day.”

“That’s strange, why adopt someone as old as you?”

“I don’t know.” She shrugged.

“Look if Josh gives you hell again come find me, ok?”

“I can take care of myself.” She frowned.

“I thought I was seeing double then!” Hill walked over to them with a smile. “I think you two were separated at birth.”

The teens looked to each other and then back at Hill.

“Hey dad.” Keogh smiled slightly.

“I was thinking of introducing you two but I guess you’ve done it for me.” He looked to Alice. “How has your morning been?”

“Thrilling.” She replied sarcastically.

“Keogh why don’t you escort Alice to her next class? Have you even eaten yet?” Hill began to fuss over them like a mother and the teen’s brows rose, Hill laughed. “Defiantly separated at birth.”

“Whatever you say, dad.” Keogh took Alice’s hand gently and began leading her towards the cafeteria. “I’ll see you after school!”

Alice looked back to Hill, who waved, and then back at Keogh-the older man did have a point.

Who is this strange Keogh boy? Why does he look similar to Alice? Only i know!
