"Move it kid!" one of the beasts shouted in a young boy, no older then 7's ear, shoving him to the ground, he got up weakly as it slapped him across the face "You pathetic wortless piece of crap!"

"Please, I'm just hungry..." he wimpered, the clawed hand struck him again.

"You'll eat when I say you can!" it hissed "You're my slave now, I burned down your village, by our laws, the sole survivor is to become my slave!"

The young child stood up weakly and continued walking, his normally beautiful green eyes had grown pale, and his soft, thick, mop of blond hair was so messy it was nearly covering his whole face. He was in clothes that looked like they were made from old, dirty rags, ripped, armless, shirts and ripped, disgusting looking pants, both a dingy brown. His hands were bound tightly at the wrists by a rope, making sure that he could make no attempt to escape. He wanted his parents, his friends, anything, but they were all gone, thanks to the sick hobgoblin who had now claimed him as his slave. What he had not expected was for a gigantic roar to erupt from the sky, knocking his captor onto its back. "Let the child go monster!" a male voice thundered, the boys mouth dropped as he saw the owner of the voice.

What landed on the ground was a giant, red scaled, blue eyed dragon, it bore it's teeth at the hobgoblin, growling threateningly. Dragons were the protectors of mankind, and detested any kind of mistreatment twoards humans, especially children. And anyone unfortuanate enough to piss off a red dragon as the hobgoblin had never met with any mercy. "Stay out of this fire-breather!" the hobgoblin retracted a dagger from his pocket grabbed the boy, held him close to his body, and put a dagger to his exposed throat "Or the boy gets it..."

A stupid move on the hobgoblins part with one slash he cut the creature in half as it dropped to the ground, as the boy looked up in terror, not knowing this dragon was his friend, he started shaking. "Please, don't hurt me..." he cried.

"Hurt you?" the dragon took one of his large talons and used it to cut the child free, bending his head to eye level as a sign of respect "I would never harm a human, let alone a human cub..."

"Cub?" the boy asked skeptically.

"What we call humans that are your age..." the dragon replied "Do you not have a home, little one?"

"Not anymore..." the boy shook his head with moisture filling his eyes "He burned down my home and claimed me as his slave..."

The dragon looked down at the crying child, pulling a wing around his shaking body, it was getting cold outside, the boy was likely freezing. "My name is Firelon..." Firelon whispered "Do you have a name little one?"

"Jacob..." Jacob replied through his tears.

Firelon wasn't sure of what to do, there was no way he was going to leave Jacob out here on his own during the harsh winter that had been going on for quite some time. After much inner debate, he lowered his neck below the small child and allowed him to slide down, Jacob had fallen asleep. He must have been a glutton for punishment, making the decision that no other dragon had ever suggested, taking a human "cub" under his wing. But, not being part of a Dragon Clan did save him from the punishment he would otherwise face, with a soft kick of his hind legs he took off into the night, careful not to knock the sleeping boy off. When he finally landed, he set the sleeping human against his body and put a wing over him, both to keep him safely out of the sight of predators and to keep him nice and warm. It was going to be a long night, and an even longer lifetime, that much the older dragon knew.

-1 Month Later-

"How much further Firelon?" Jacob asked impatiently, the dragon turned his head with a smile.

"Not long now, I think..." he replied reassuringly.

"Will your friends like me...?" Jacob asked nervously, pulling the jacket they had found abandoned outside a town further over him.

"Of course they will..." Firelon nuzzled Jacob playfully "They've always been fascinated by human pups..."

"But how will they react to you actually raising me?"

Firelon sighed. "Who knows, and honestly, who cares?" he replied.

Seeing the boy was getting tired, he lowered his head and let him onto it, lifting it up once more, Jacob strangely liked rinding on his head. He felt the boy relax after a while and set him onto his massive back as he slept. It took another few hours to get to where his friends were. "Firelon, well aren't you a syfersoreeyes!" the only dragon present at the moment, a blue one named Eldar exclaimed "How are ya?" he was about to pat his back when Firelon gently pushed the talon away.

"Don't..." Firelon said in a hushed tone.

It was at this point the Eldar saw the reason, looking wide eyed at Jacob. "A human pup?" Eldar said, his voice choked "You're carrying a human-!?"

"Hey he was being kept as a slave!" Firelon said angrily "He had nowhere to go, I wasn't about to abandon him..."

"Oh Firelon..." Eldar said, shaking his head "Fridal won't like this at all..."
