Slipping Away

Darkness falls, swift and sure,

Body throbbing with a constant ache,

Barely aware, away fades the floor,

In agony, I hope I do not wake.

Free at last, I slip away,

Leaving hurt and agony behind,

Ever so cautious I make my way,

To the fringes of my hazy mind.

Glowing faintly is a golden arch,

From it is an imperceptible pull,

So up the luminous path I march,

And there I find a place so beautiful.

Joyful and assured, I enter the light,

And am awash with an aura, glowing so bright.
