Hello! This is a revised version of my other story, Muller. I thought the beginning and first few chapters were horrible, so I decided to rewrite them. I also changed a few details, and fates of the characters. Same concept, just new chapters or more detailed old ones. So please, read and review. Don't be mean, but any help you can give would be much appreciated. Thank you!
1919
Mickey stood at the dock, waiting impatiently for the ship to arrive. After not seeing his brother for almost a decade, he was very excited. He was a young man, only 27. He was very tall, with dark brown hair and emerald green eyes.
Standing next to him was a short man with blue/green eyes and blondish brown hair. They were both the same age. Mickey was almost two feet taller than him, and anyone passing by would think they were an interesting pair.
"What time was the ship supposed to arrive?" the man asked.
"It should have been here at 1:00. It's 2:30 now. Do you think something might have..?"
"No. They are fine. What reason do the Germans have to attack a passenger liner now? The war is over. And you know England wouldn't attack its own ship," he replied quickly. If there was one thing he had mastered over the years, it was knowing how to calm Mickey down.
"I know you're right, Nathaniel. It's just... I already lost two siblings. I can't lose anymore," Mickey said weakly. The man named Nathaniel gave him a sympathetic look, not sure how to respond. Suddenly, he saw something on the horizon.
"Mickey, look!!! It's a ship. How much do you want to bet it's the one they're on?" Nat shouted happily. Mickey looked up, and a huge smile spread across his face.
"Thank you for coming, Nat," he replied happily. He would have gone crazy if he was by himself.
"Hey, no problem. I had nothing better to do," Nat said jokingly, which earned him a punch in the arm. "Oww. That hurt! Damn German," he insulted. Mickey glared at him and called him an "arrogant English dumkoff(idiot)". Another reason why the friendship seemed so unusual was because Nathaniel was British, and Mickey was German. After a war against the two countries, the friendship was uncommon.
"I do want to thank you for helping me get them over here," Mickey said seriously.
"He is your brother. Of course I would help you. Besides, I had to do this, I made that promise a long time ago." Nat replied. Mickey had wondered what that promise was, and who he promised it to, but he never asked. It was one of those few secrets Nat never told to anyone.
The boat was nearly pulled to the dock, and Mickey became nervous again. "Do you think they'll like it here?" he asked.
"It is New York City, Mic. The land of opportunities, remember? That's why we came here."
"God we were stupid back then," Mickey laughed. " We might as well sit down. I just realized that they have to be inspected and put on record." They looked around, and finally found a bench. The Statue of Liberty was in plain sight. Mickey remembered how he felt when he first saw it. It was one of the happiest days of his life. He had seen it hundreds of times after that, but it still brought him joy.
About an hour later, people were leaving the main building and were going on shuttles to the main land. They quickly began looking for them, and that in itself took ages. It was over another hour before they finally saw who they were looking for. Mickey began walking toward them, Nat following with a heavy limp. He had been wounded pretty badly during the war, but had gotten used to it over time.
"Are you scared Mickey?" Nat asked from behind. Mickey stopped and turned around.
"I am, Nat. I know he won't be how I remembered him." Mickey replied sadly.
"Of course he won't be the same. He was six the last time you saw him. He'll still love you, and you should know that." Once again, Nat had said the right thing. Mickey gave a weak smile, and went to get his brother.
'Good luck Mickey. God knows you're going to need it.' Nat thought to himself. 'Bloody hell, I'm going to need it too.'
