Mistake

Our faces, dimly lit by distant light.

Windows dark with evening past the twilight.

Vacant rooms at peace after the day.

Muscles soft, our cares massaged away.

I hugged him firm – he learned there of my love.

He hugged me back, the same he whispered of.

I looked him in the eye and stood a while.

Upon his face my dear and gentle smile.

I know not why I did it to this day:

I looked him in the eye and turned away.
