"Inside"

you had your eyes
opened wide
so you could see
what you wanted to see
but maybe they
were opened too wide
and you saw so much
that you couldn't see me

you just flat out decided
that your sight is blurred
and i don't fit perfectly
into your view
but you'll be flat out wrong
when they open the universe
and you find out
it doesn't revolve around you

you were in on the inside
you were out of the outside
the city fell asleep
with the street lamps
then the city ultimately died
skeletons walked the streets
and abandoned their owners closets
animals left the forest while
water abandoned all the faucets

you compromised
what you are worth
to help compromise with the pain
but when both sides weigh down
what's to gain?
and you told me you were leaving
and you told me you'd be gone
so please forgive me
if i seem too withdrawn

you had your eyes
opened wide
so you could see
what you wanted to see
but maybe they
were opened too wide
and you saw so much
that you couldn't see me
