A\N I had to fix a few things, when I wrote it was kinda late and I was tired! Hope you like it!

----------------------------------------------------

“I’m sorry my Queen, but your husband, Thutmose II, is dead.” the servant said from his kneeling position on the stone floor in front of the Queen, who was on a balcony that overlooked the desert.

The queen’s name was Hatshepsut, and she was the Chief-queen of the Pharaoh who had just passed on, Thutmose II.

She took a shuddering breath before nodding and replying, “Tell the priests to begin the funerary arrangements, and let it be known throughout the land that Pharaoh Thutmose II is dead.”

The servant stood, bowed, than turned and left to do Hatshepsut’s bidding.

Hatshepsut felt slow, hot tears begin running down her face as she turned back to the desert and allowed the moon to cast it’s pale light upon her beautiful skin. And for just a moment, she felt helpless. Not knowing what to do, and feeling alone without the comfort of her husband with her.

She missed his comforting voice telling her that everything would be alright. She missed that soft kiss that told her he loved her . . .

All of a sudden there was the soft pitter-patter of small feet, “Step-mother?” a young, teary voice called out.

Hatshepsut turned around to see her step-son\nephew, Thutmose III, standing the archway, that connected the balcony with the rest of the palace.

“Thutmose, what are you doing up at this time of night? And why have you been crying?” she asked, sitting down in a chair and setting the small boy on her lap, gently wiping the tears off his face.

“I couldn’t sleep.” Thutmose III replied, “And outside my bedroom I heard Aapep telling Chuma that father was . . .” the boy whimpered and buried his face in Hatshepsut’s shoulder.

Hatshepsut patted the boys head gently, “Shh-shh, it’s alright.” she said comfortingly

Thutmose sniffled a little, and looked up at his step-mother, “I-Is father gone?” he asked softly.

Hatshepsut, smiled sadly at the boy, “Yes.”

“Is he coming back?”

Hatshepsut felt a lump beginning to rise in her throat as she continued to gaze at Thutmose’s tearful face, “No. He isn’t coming back.” she whispered. The boy then threw his arms around her and began to softly weep.

Hatshepsut then knew this boy would not be able to rule by himself, and it was then, the helpless feeling left her.

She knew what she had to do. She would have to make herself Pharaoh. But she would not become a murderer and kill the next in line for the throne. She could not kill the little boy who she loved as dearly as her own child, the boy who was now crying in her arms.

Thutmose was too young to know how to rule as a Pharaoh properly, and would need a co-regent. That was where she would take her place. She would slowly build up her power until she had become the most powerful woman in all of Egypt, and was crowned the Lady of . . . no . . . the Lord of the Two Lands. “Yes . . .” Hatshepsut thought as she continued to hold her step-son “the Lord of the Two Lands.”
