Opposites Attract
Chapter 1
Avery couldn't be anymore annoyed. Not only because they were assigned a history report on the first week of school, but because he was paired up with the one person he couldn't stand, Eden Luther.
Yeah, he had been in his classes since 6th grade, but he never really talked to him. Eden was always extremely loud and had to make a joke out of everything!
Avery didn't know why of all people he had to get stuck with Eden.
'Why do we have to have partners for a history report anyway?!' Avery thought.
Maybe the teacher thought they were incapable of looking up sources on the internet by themselves. Well, maybe some people were . . .
Anyway, the point is, he got stuck with Eden and he was pretty pissed! He hadn't even looked through one book!
"Are you going to help or not?!" Avery snapped.
Eden glanced up from his PSP. "Uh . . . yeah, just a sec" he said, turning his attention back to the mini screen.
Avery sighed and rolled his eyes. "Have you even done any research?" he asked.
Eden kept his eyes on the electric device. "Uh . . . yeah, I have lots of information about . . . the guy."
Avery sighed for a second time. "Um . . . 'the guy' has a name . . . and it's Frederick Douglass" he said, annoyance lacing his voice.
"Oh yeah! That's it! But yeah . . . I've got tons of information" Eden said, still not looking away fromt the device.
"Really? Where is it then?"
"I left it at home."
Avery narrowed his eyes and reached over, snatching the PSP from the raven haired boy.
"What the hell?!" Eden yelled, disrupting the quietness of the library.
"Shut up! You're not supposed to have this out right now! You're supposed to be helping me with this damn report!" Avery said angrily, but quiet enough for only Eden to hear.
"Dude, I told you I left the stuff at home! Now give it back!" Eden said, not so quietly.
"No!" Avery hissed.
"You're pissing me off!" Eden yelled.
"You piss me off everyday . . ." Avery mumbled.
"What?!"
"Nothing!"
"Then give it back!"
"What part of 'no' don't you understand?" Avery asked raising an eyebrow.
Eden sighed a long angry sigh. "I'm about to punch you in the face . . ." he mumbled.
"Whatever, start helping with the project and I'll give your stupid PSP back."
"Give it back or I won't help with the project" the raven haired boy said, crossing his arms.
They stared at each other a moment, glaring evilly.
"Whatever, you're so immature" Avery said, sliding the PSP back to the other boy.
"Well you act older than my grandpa!"
"At least I'm not immature."
Eden glared at the blonde.
Well . . . this was going to be pleasant.
"Mom?" he called.
"In the living room!" she replied.
Avery arched an eyebrow when he saw some guy sitting on the couch . . . holding his mom's hand . . .
They stood. "Hi honey! This is Jame."
"Hello" James said, raising a hand.
"Hey . . ." Avery said.
They stood in an awkward silence.
"Well . . . I'd better get going. See you tonight" James said, kissing Avery's mom. He mumbled "bye " to Avery and hurried out the door.
"When did this happen? . . ." Avery asked.
"Don't be mad . . . okay?" his mom said.
Avery crossed his arms.
"We've . . . um . . . been seeing each other for about three months now . . ."
Avery's mouth dropped open. "Three months?! You've been dating that guy for three months and you never told me?!" he dropped his book bag with a loud thump.
"I told you not to get mad!"
"So . . . you were dating him while you were getting a divorce?"
"Well . . . yes . . ."
"And you don't expect me to get mad about that?!"
"Avery, you know how your father was acting!"
"Yeah, but he wasn't dating anyone!"
"You can at least be happy for me! He treats me so much better than your father! He actually cares about me! And I'm happier than I've ever been . . ."
"Happy?! I'm still pissed that my dad is gone and I haven't heard from him in 2 months! 2 fucking months!"
"Don't you dare use that word again!"
Avery rolled his eyes and turned his back to her. "Whatever . . ."
