“Hey,” the languid honey-blonde said. “I’m Liz.” She was lounging on a cramped cot shoved on the far side of the room, her sky-blue eyes gleaming a rebellious, angry flicker of fire.

“Rachel,” the girl puffed. She was small and skinny, with bony limbs and a short, inky crop of black hair that streamed around her ears like small feathers. She dragged her two shiny suitcases in and pushed them beside the other lumpy cot, before gingerly sitting on it.

“Soooo…. Rach,” Liz drawled, making Rachel wince with the short, harsh nickname.

“Soooo…. Elizabeth,” Rachel drawled back, onyx eyes half-laughing, half-mocking.

Liz barked out a rough laugh. “Touché. So, Rach, whaddya in for?”

“Well Elizabeth,” Rachel mimicked immediately. “Mummy darling thinks that I am “vicious, snarling, violent, nasty, upset, and depressed”. Thinks I cut/do drugs/sleep with anybody and everybody I meet, or all of the above. You?”

“Ahh, I was having a helluva time screwing off at my Rich Aunt Adelaide’s, until I fucked up. Addie is a complete bitch, and shipped me of to this dump as punishment God, I hate her.” Liz yawned evasively.

“Sounds like an absolute wonder,” Rachel replied, half-grinning.
