Best Friend”

The term “best friend”,

Today is taken so lightly.

It’s said on whim,

Or its meaning is flighty.

Its meaning is general,

Reduced to the everyday.

No longer special,

And scarcely meant that way.

The term is tossed around,

Like a dirty old shoe.

The exact meaning is lost,

In translation, it’s true.

Today you’re my friend,

And tomorrow my best.

But come the day after,

I only meant it in jest.

I don’t like this term,

Because it’s hardly ever meant.

Friends come and go,

But “true” friends stay ‘til the end.

The term “best friend”,

Is one I no longer use.

Instead I call you this:

“A friend that is true”.

A “true” friend is loyal,

A “true” friend is dear.

Please don’t hate me,

For saying this here.

Now, I’m not saying,

That a “best friend” isn’t that.

It’s just that the meaning,

Has gone completely flat.

Please review. They are much appreciated and returned.
