Charlie’s P.O.V

School was a blur, now people are starting to make conversations with me. Back then; no one would even want to look twice at me except for Eugene, who had a crush on me since were were in the seventh grade.

I felt something vibrating in my pocket, it was my phone.

Sis, I’m sorry but I cant fetch you from school anymore. Mom has problems coming home. Just go home with your friend until the end of this week.

Jenny

I sighed and sat under the tree. ‘This sucks.’

‘Hey Daniels.’

My head snapped up and I closed my eyes with annoyance. ‘What Alvers?’

‘What are you doing? Waiting for Christmas?’

No. I’m waiting for a ride home.’ I replied dully, desperately looking around for someone to give me a ride home. I hope he doesn’t offer me a ride home.

‘Want me to-?’

‘No thanks.’ I said quickly and he smirked.

‘I ain’t gonna do nothing bad to you.’ He said, offering his hand. ‘I’ll only send you home, promise.’

I read his eyes and felt like he did mean it. I took his hand and he pulled me up swiftly. ‘Okay, where’s your car?’

He laughed as if it was a joke. ‘Cars are for losers kid, I got a bike.’

‘One, don’t call me kid and two, If I die, I will hate you forever.’ I hissed as he led me to his bike. It was big, shiny and black. Awesome looking one.

Okay, I’m not that good in describing bikes. Actually, I suck at describing anything for that matter unless its food. Yum. He handed me his helmet and I tried to put it on my head but it won’t budge. ‘Why won’t you fit?’

Rick shook his head and took the helmet. He turned it around and put it on my head. He he. ‘That’s how you wear a helmet.’

I stuck out my tongue at him and the both of us climbed on the seat. As he revived his bike, making those loud professional noises. I quickly put my arms around his waist and held on for dear life. This was my first riding with this bad boy on an expensive motorcycle. Who knows how fast he drives?

He gave a soft laugh and twisted those two handles, making more loud noises. ‘Ready?’

I nodded and he started the motor again. I screamed as he started drove the motor fast. I grabbed hold of my helmet; it was about to fall out because I forgot to strap it. Sometimes I can be very stupid, I mean come on, I actually put on the helmet the other way around. Talk about embarrassment. He was driving so fast, as if we were flying on air.

‘RED! RED!’ I screamed but he didn’t stop driving. ‘My god, are you out of your mind?’

I can tell he is probably smirking right now. I made a mental note: Whatever it is, do not let Rick Alvers take you home. It just might be your last day on Earth.

‘RIGHT! RIGHT!’ I yelled and he made a sharp turn to the right, our knees almost touched the road! ‘TURN LEFT!’ he made another sharp turn to the left, and again, our keens almost touched the road.

Okay maybe I’m just exaggerating but it felt like that. Stupid Alvers and his bike awesome expensive bike.

‘THERE’S MY H-.’

He zoomed past it and I glared at him from behind.

‘You missed it, smart ass.’

‘Sorry.’ He apologized and made a u-turn, and for once it was actually slow. He stopped in front of my house. ‘How was that? Cool eh?’

I drew in a deep breath and looked at him as if he was crazy.

‘Are you crazy?’ I yelled. ‘You call that cool? I call that a one way ticket to death! You could have gotten both of us killed.’

‘Kid, I’ve been driving like that ever since I was in the eighth grade. I think I can live with it.’

‘Well I can’t if this is how you’re going to send me home for the rest of the week.’ I retort and immediately regretted what I just said. I bit my tongue as a punishment. Stupid mouth. ‘And don’t call me kid.’

Why can’t I just shut up?

‘What?’

‘Nothing.’ I said and walked up to my house. He caught up with me and grabbed hold of my hand. ‘It’s only until the end of this week.’

He took a lighter and a fag out from his pocket and lit the fag. He was smoking as I was explaining to him. After a few minutes, I realized that I could smell smoke. I looked around and saw him smoking like nobody’s business.

I snatched the fag and threw it on the floor. I stepped on it angrily; I just can’t stand people smoking.

‘Hey!’ Rick said as I stepped on the cigarette.

‘You want to die?’ I asked angrily. ‘Smoking are for losers, kid.’ I made sure the last word was emphasized. He crossed his arms over his chest; he was playing with his bloody key chain again. Blood Alvers, why can’t he just stand still?

‘Well, I don’t think so.’

‘Well, I do.’

‘You should learn how to keep your nose out of people’s business.’ He shot back.

‘You should learn that smoking could kill you.’ I huffed with annoyance. ‘Sorry, I just can’t stand people smoking.’

And then there was silence; both of us didn’t say a word for a few minutes.

He gave me a once over and I saw the corners of his mouth tilted. He cocked his head to the side and watched me. I can feel his eyes searching me. He sighed and put his hands in his pockets, taking out two boxes of cigarettes and one lighter.

Rick walked over to our rubbish bin and threw them in.

‘Just for you.’ He said and smiled. Rick saluted me and returned to his bike. He strapped on his helmet and winked at me. ‘See you tomorrow, Daniels.’

He gave me a short wave and he drove off. As I watched him leave, I ran over to my rubbish bin. I smiled to myself. Did he quit smoking just for me?

I walked up to my house and went inside. My sister was sitting in front of the window, smirking at me.

‘So, whose the guy?’ she asked, and I just shrugged. ‘He smokes eh? Bet you gave him a long lecture.’

‘Yeah.’ I had a big smile on my face. ‘And he quit.’

‘I think this bad boy likes you.’

I blushed. He made it seem like it.

‘You think so?’ I asked and Jenny nodded. ‘Nah, he doesn’t really know me.’

‘Yeah but come on, he quit smoking because of you.’ She pointed out. ‘That’s a huge thing for a guy to quit smoking because of a girl.’

I shook my head. ‘Stop crapping, Jen.’

With that, I went up to my room and sat down on the edge of me bed. I thought about it for a while. Ever since I bumped into him, he’s been talking to me like every single time. Maybe, he does like me… Well, he makes it seem like he does like me.

I lie down on my bed, not knowing that tomorrow I would get a really surprise.
