Insane Deception

Scene 1

Lucy and Peggy enter in the middle of a conversation. Peggy sits down on the Rsofa and Lucy chews her gum exaggeratedly

Lucy- I’ll retrieve your husband momentarily, Mrs. Anderson.

Peggy- Thank you, Nurse Davis. Has there been any improvement since my last visit?

Lucy- I’m sorry, Mrs. Anderson. The amnesia is still in full effect.

Peggy (Interrupting)- Why are you still here?

Lucy (As if she was never interrupted)- Though there have been mysterious bruises on his… wait, what?

Lucy blows a large bubble and snaps it.

Peggy (Impatiently)- Why are you still here? Where’s Mickey?

Lucy- I’ll go get him, ma’am.

Lucy exits, Peggy remains on the sofa, muttering about the incompetence of nurses. Lucy re-enters, this time with Mickey. Peggy gets up and hugs him

Peggy- How are you?

Mickey- Good actually. I think I remember our wedding.

Peggy (Beaming)- That’s wonderful! Sees Lucy and gets angry Why are you still here?! Give my husband and I some privacy!

Lucy exits hastily and Mickey and Peggy sit on the R couch

Peggy- So, you think you remember our wedding

Mickey- I… think so. Weren’t you in a red dress?

Peggy (Confused)- No… are you confusing me with your previous marriage?

Mickey- Maybe. I’m sorry.

Margie enters unnoticed

Peggy- I got us a dog

Mickey- I don’t like dogs

Peggy (suddenly yelling which progresses slowing into sobs)- What do you mean you don’t like dogs? What about Castor? Remember? Our Great Pyrenees? Since when have you not liked dogs?!

Mickey (Frantically)- Pegs, hon, calm down! What kind of dog?

Peggy (Suddenly cheerful)- A rottweiler! I named her Chloë!

Margie is sitting on the L couch

Margie- I like that. Chloe was my sister’s name.

Peggy screams and jumps to her feet, her voice rising

Peggy- Who are you? Why are you here?! Can’t we have some privacy?!

Peggy collapses sobbing. Mickey looks from Peggy to Margie and goes to Peggy. As soon as he touches her, Peggy starts screaming again.

Mickey (Panicked)- Get Nurse Davis!

Margie leaves hurriedly, returning a second later with Lucy who is carrying a large syringe and is snapping her gum loudly

Lucy- What’s going on?

Mickey- She’s having a panic attack!

Lucy gives Peggy a sedative shot and Peggy slumps. Mickey and Lucy support her out of the room. Mickey comes back and glares at Margie

Mickey- Why did you do that?

Margie- I didn’t do anything!

Mickey- You induced the attack!

Margie- I just said I liked your dog’s name! It’s not my fault your wife is insane!

Margie storms off R. Mickey sits dejectedly on the R sofa

Scene 2

Mickey sneaks on stage, “behind” the R sofa. Sneaks across stage, spy like, and settles behind the L couch. Lucy and Peggy enter, Lucy helping Peggy walk. Peggy is wearing a hospital gown over her original costume. Peggy lays on R sofa, apparently asleep. Lucy exits, passing Margie who enters. She crosses quietly and sits on L sofa, staring at Peggy. Peggy wakes up, sees Margie watching her and sits up

Peggy- I hate you

Margie- I didn’t do anything.

Peggy- It’s because of you I’m stuck in this hell hole.

Margie- It’s not my fault you’re schizophrenic.

Peggy stands up angrily. Mickey peers discreetly over the back of the sofa

Peggy- I am not schizophrenic! I just have problems! I’m married to a spy!

Margie (taken aback)- Erm… How is that relevant? …Wait, Mickey’s a spy?

Mickey peers over top of sofa again. Peggy sees him and screams. Lucy sprints in with a syringe. Margie leaps up and backhands him.

Peggy (shouting)- How dare you scare me like that, Mickey! How long were you standing there?

Mickey rubs his cheek

Mickey- About two or three minutes? I don’t know…

Margie- You were spying on me, Mr. Anderson?

Flashback: Margie and Mickey move DC and take hands.

Mickey- This is going to be difficult, Tanya. If they find out we’re together, we’ll be killed.

Margie/ Tanya (In Russian Accent)- I know, but it’s a risk I am willing to take.

Mickey- But how do we have any chance? You’re an assassin, I’m a spy. We’re trained to kill each other.

Margie- We can make it work. I know we can.

Back to present day

Lucy- Mrs. Anderson? Mrs. Anderson! It’s time for you to take your pills.

Margie nods, but Peggy looks insulted

Peggy- I don’t take pills.

Margie- She was talking to me

Peggy- But I’m Mrs. Anderson!

Margie- No… I am.

Lucy looks at her clipboard

Lucy- I have written here that you are both Mrs. Margaret Anderson.

Margie & Peggy (In shock)- What!?

Lucy- Yes, apparently both married to Mr. Mickey Anderson, either in the past or currently.

Margie looks at Mickey in horror

Margie- I was married to him?

Mickey (Shocked)- You’re Tanya Volcov?

Lucy (Even more shocked)- You remember her real name?

Lucy goes UL and writes something hurriedly on her clip board, turned ¾ closed, then turns to Margie

Lucy- You really need to take your pills, Mrs. Anderson. I’ll go get them.

Lucy takes Peggy and the unused syringe and exits

Fight sequence: Refer to included diagram and instructions and go to Izak for more on the choreography.

Lucy enters with a bottle of pills and sees Mickey and Margie grappling

Lucy. What are you doing?!

Margie & Mickey (Innocently)- …Nothing…

Lucy nods uncertainly, puts the pills on the table and exits again, muttering something about getting water.

Fight continues

Lucy enters at a run and grabs Margie and Mickey by the collars, throwing them together. Margie and Mickey crumple and Lucy takes a walkie-talkie out of her coat pocket.

Lucy- This is Special Agent Davis. The Andersons are under control, they won’t remember anything when they wake up.
