She Has Lessons With the Devil On How To Be More Evil...Don't Know How Much She Charges

Revised: November 9, 2009

So, waking up to a monkey on my head? Not that bizarre. Two minutes after that, having the shrill of your phone break the weird silence between you and a guy buddy (that you happen to have some serious feelings for) and the person on the other end of the phone being your father? A little creeper.

“Kate! Thank God! Where the hell are you?” he demanded.

“Dad, calm down. I'm fi-”

“Don't tell me to calm down! I get home this morning, your sister is flouncing”-true, she did flounce-“out the door, hopping into a Porsche with a boy – who, I may add – I don't know! Then I go upstairs to find Perry in bed with a boy, too!” I mentally cringed at the thought of Perry naked. Not so much cringing with Nate naked, though...

Okay, okay; so the guy has an awesome body. But he was with Perry and Trevor happened to be right beside me, and he had an equally awesome body.

“And then, after all that's sorted out, I find out you're at a boy's house!” He screamed into the phone, making me cringe at the feedback I was getting.

“Dad! I was just visiting. We fell asleep on the couch. Don't wor-”

Don't you dare tell me not to worry!” he shrieked. And I might add, Ethan Jackson MacKenzie does not shriek.

“Dad! Jesus,” I sighed, knowing he hated us saying the Lord's name in vain. “His sister was here the entire time!”

“Oh, really? And who would she be?” he practically sneered as if she weren't the responsible twenty-year-old sister that she was. Which she wasn't.

“It's Maddie, Goddamnit!” I screamed automatically. Oh, I was going to get it know.

Maddie who!?” he threw back.

“Maddie Rogue,” I managed to grit out through my clenched teeth. I know that he had a right to be angry, but he was in serious pissing-off territory.

“Perry's ex?”

“Yes, now, what did you want from me again?” I asked bitterly. I was upset that he didn't trust me.

“Kate, don't be like that. You know I tru-” He stopped suddenly. A silence filled my ear except for the faint buzzing of the phone.

“Dad?” I asked, worriedly.

“Kate? Who is this boy?” he questioned, anger seeping through his tone. Ah, looked like Daddy dearest knows Jason, man whore of the year.

“It's not what you're thinki-”

Katherine Lierin MacKenzie Miller! Are you with Jason Rogue?” I cringed away from the phone again. I glanced over at Trevor for the first time. His eyebrows were raised and the monkey, Justin, was sitting on his shoulder, staring at me with big, round chocolate brown eyes.

Silly monkey. Silly girl monkey with a boy’s name.

“No, Dad. When could I possibly have time for that?” I asked sarcastically. Bad, bad move.

“Katherine! I'm coming to get you this instant!” he screamed into the phone.

“No! Dad, don- fuck!” I screamed aloud. He’d already hung up on me. “Damn.”

“What is it?” Trevor asked, stroking Justin’s chin. Justin was looking up at me with curiosity filled eyes.

“My dad’s coming to pick me up,” I admitted with a defeated sigh. Trevor squinted at me like I’d just admitted to murdering a parrot because it wouldn’t eat a cracker. “He thinks I’m sleeping with you. He’s just all fatherly because most of his children have boyfriends. Especially his little girl.”

“Oh, well, I can’t do anything about that situation,” Trevor murmured under his breathe, eying me with something like envy.

“Trevor, do you have any clothes that I could borrow?” I asked, pushing myself up from the large bed.

“I’m not sure; let me check,” he mumbled, rolling over and out of the bed. I rolled my eyes.

Justin made a small noise and I looked down. He was standing in front of me with big, wide eyes and he had his arms outstretched to me, begging to be picked up by me.

“Pfft. Of course you’d want up,” I mumbled, reaching down and pulling him up by the torso. He scampered up my arm and hid under my hair, peeking out through the thick curtain of brown and blonde.

I watched Trevor as he crossed the room and threw open two large swinging doors to a closet. I swear my mouth dropped open as I saw how big it was. Twice as large my bedroom at home and probably six times as big as my own pathetic closet.

“That’s all yours?”

Trevor turned, hands still on the handles. “Of course.”

“You’re such a girl,” I muttered, rubbing Justin’s chin.

“What was that?”

“Nothing.”

I watched as he shook his head once and turned back to the large closet. He walked into it and reappeared a few seconds later. He threw a pair of jeans and a t-shirt at me.

Justin ducked her small, brown head under my hair as I caught the jeans but dropped the t-shirt. Justin jumped off my shoulder when I leaned over to pick it up, grabbed it in her little hand and jumped back onto my shoulder. I took the black t-shirt from her little hand.

I unfolded the jeans and took a good look at them. A pair of stone washed jeans, that, although were slim, were going to be way too big for me. Sighing, I threw them over my shoulder (being careful of Justin) and unfolded the black t-shirt and inspected it vigorously. I was happy to see that no penis references were on it. It was a simple - new - CM Punk t-shirt that had was only marred by the crease made from the fold. Throwing the t-shirt over my shoulder, I turned to Trevor.

“Thanks, now, can you get this monkey off my back and turn so I can get changed?” I asked, giving him a small smile.

“So, did your dad totally freak on you?” Jack asked me, eying my tired expression.

“Yeah, well, Dad’s not exactly in the best mood right now,” I mumbled in response.

I glanced down at my iPod and noted that the home room bell was going to ring in sixteen minutes.

“Grounded?”

“Surprisingly, no. He was still a little freaked by seeing Perry in bed with Nate,” I explained, shutting off my iPod. Jack just nodded knowingly in response. Seems she had been in the same situation.

“Hey, where’s Sam and her Spanish t-shirt?” Jack asked teasingly. I shrugged my shoulders, grinning.

“She’s probably working. Month’s coming to an end and bills must be paid.”

“Doesn’t she have parents that work?”

“Sam’s...alone, I guess. Her parents were killed in a drunk driving accident when she was ten.”

“She been on her own since she was ten?” Jack questioned, eying my dubiously.

“No; of course not. She lived with her grandmother until last year. She died after a battle with cancer for a couple years.”

“And she was supporting them both?”

“No; they got the inheritance and life insurance but Sam wanted her grandma to be comfortable. And the hospital bills drained most of the money away. Now Sam’s working three jobs. She probably has a triple shift today,” I said, cocking my head to the side. Where was Lee?

“A triple shift? What the hell is that?”

“You know what a double shift is?” I asked, taking a sip of my Diet Coke.

“Yeah,” Jack confirmed, nodding her head once.

“Well, a triple shift is just an extra shift to that. So, like eighteen hours of work.”

“Wow,” Jack said, adding a low whistle.

“Yeah, but she’s gotta make ends meet and she refuses any other kind of help, so she’s usually so tied up at the end of the month that she skips a lot of school.”

“Oh. Well, how come no one told me that?”

“You never asked,” I said with a shrug, taking the last sip of my Diet Coke.

“Well, you could’ve told me something!” Jack said. With a lack of response, she simply “hmphed”.

The bell rang, signaling the start of the school day. I sighed and hopped off of the bench we were sitting on and made my way to class.

“Kate!” I heard someone call from behind me. I whipped my head around, only to find that the braid that was in my hair hurt like a bitch when it hit my face. When I pushed my hair out of the way, I saw Nina running towards me.

“Hey, Nina,” I greeted, eying her disheveled appearance. Her hair was pulled back into a sloppy ponytail that was already falling out.

“Kate! I’m so, so sorry about my brother!” she apologized, shaking her head back and forth.

“Wait, what?” I asked, eying her in a confused manner.

“You...you don’t know?”

“Know what?” I asked, tucking a loose strand of brown hair behind my ear.

“Kate, Casey started going out with Missy,” she replied, cocking her head to the side and studying my expression.

“What?” I questioned in confusion.

“I thought you two had a date Saturday.”

“We did. I was caught up in something and forgot to call him,” I replied, my expression never changing from calm.

“Oh, I didn’t know. Well, I’m still sorry about that,” she said, shaking her head back and forth again.

“I-I don’t mind, really. As long as we’re still cool?” I asked, smiling at her. She smiled back and nodded.

“I’m still sorry about Casey, though,” she repeated, sigh wistfully. “I mean, who wouldn’t want a MacKenzie as a sister?” she teased.

“Pfft. Many a people,” I muttered, my smile fading slightly.

“Yeah, sure,” Nina responded, her smile turning to a smirk.

“Does cafeteria food suck or is it just me?” Lee asked absently, eying the food on his plate. The only thing that looked somewhat edible was the peas, but I still didn’t trust them.

“No, it’s not just you,” Trevor sighed, going back to poking his macaroni with a plastic knife. It was this rather strange brain looking pasta. Kind of like jelly. He poked it again, and watching it wiggle. "This is nasty shit."

“That is so disgusting,” Jack mumbled, folding her hands flat on the table and resting her chin on them. She was staring straight into the thing, like it wa brainwashing her.

“Well, yeah. This food is just nasty,” Lee replied, his nose wrinkling in disgust.

“It truly is,” I muttered, picking up a plastic fork and throwing it at the pasta-brain. It bounced off of the surface and hit my knee. “Ow.”

“That did not hurt,” Trevor complained, tossing the plastic knife. It hit a gymnast in the back of the head and she scowled in out tables general direction. Trevor stuck his pierced tongue out at her when she’d turned her back on us.

“Very, very mature

“Hey, he’s always immature,” Lee said.

“Geez, thanks for thinking so much of me,” he sulked, crossing his arms over his chest. I turned to Jack, who was now poking the macaroni with a spoon.

“I dare someone to touch it,” she whispered, poking it with more force than necessary, watching again as it jiggled.

“I dare someone to eat it,” I suggested, smiling up at Lee. He gave me a dirty look.

“Ew; that’s just nasty,” he mumbled, turning his back on me. I think he was about to say something else when he froze, his eyes glued to the doors. We allurned and faced the entrance to the caf.

“Lee?” Jack asked, worriedly. Lee suddenly laughed loudly. We all turned to the cafeteria doors.

Casey had just walked in, walking as if he were the king of the world. Missy was hanging off of his arm, her bloody red lips curved into a smirk as she passed by our table, her small boobs pressed against Casey's arm.

“She has lessons with the devil on how to be more evil,” he said, managing to keep his voice serious the entire time. “Don’t know how much she charges.”

And what is a girl like me to do when someone says something so absurd about someone you dislike greatly?

Well, that girl probably would still be trying to figure it out.

I was on the floor laughing.
