The Business World

The figure of a voluptuous, dark haired woman strut through the ornate double doors of the restaurant. With full lips hugged around the end of a glowing cigarette, she paused to take in the image of the room. White walls accented with the spirals of golden flowers, golden chandeliers twinkling softly with the light of crystals, and tables and chairs decorated with cloth that matched the walls.

The woman inhaled deeply and rolled her almost black eyes. She abruptly parted the cigarette from her lips and grimaced. “Of course she has to pick the gaudiest restaurant she can find,” she muttered to herself in a womanly tone that matched the sensual shape of her body.

From the corner of her eye she spotted a lanky host dressed in a traditional white button down shirt with black pants and tie repeatedly trace a track up and down her body with his beady eyes. Again she rolled her eyes, this time more repulsed by the fact that he dare to look upon her like she were a mere object rather than the being she was. Without the slightest hint that she was going to move, she pivoted to face him and tossed her lit cigarette at his feet. His eye bulged from his thin, pockmarked face as he jumped away from the cigarette, but then realizing how dangerous the burning cigarette could be, his quickly stomped at it.

“Are you insane? You could have-“

She hastily cut him off without the slightest hint of irritation in her voice. “Excuse me?”

Her voice diverted his eyes from the floor to meet with the burning gaze she used to stare at him. The intensity in her bottomless eyes caused him to freeze in place.

She moved towards him, taking slow, steady steps and proceeded to speak, “I am not here for your visual delight, little one. Matter of fact,” she stopped inches before him and smiles mischievously, “no woman, no matter how ill of class she is, no matter how hideous she is to the eyes, is at a low enough of a level for you to feel justified to look at. So, my dear, I highly suggest you put your eyes back in that monstrous face of yours and act like a good little dog and bring me to meet with my company.”

The host nodded his head frantically, now terrified by the power the woman’s eyes exerted. “Ye- Yes, madam” he stuttered.

Within a matter of moments, the still petrified host guided the woman to a blonde haired woman with gentle, blue eyes who was seated at a table in the center of the restaurant. He quickly pulled back an empty chair across from the blonde woman and waited for the dark haired woman to sit in it. Instead, she stood staring at him, piercing him with her eyes and causing him to bow his head with fear. After a moment, she chuckled cruelly and glided past him, taking a seat in the chair. He pushed the chair closer to the table and began to scurry off when she called out to him. “Oh, by the way, Charles,” she turned her head to peer at him out of the corner of her eye once more, and hissed his name deliberately, asserting her power and knowledge over him. “I work with men like you on a daily basis, and I assure you, I’ll be seeing you soon. This time, I’ll make sure you won’t disrespect me like that again.” With that, she turned to her company.

The blonde woman seemed unimpressed by the dark haired woman’s actions, but neither smiled nor frowned upon her. Though the people around them chattered on thoughtlessly, silence hung between the two women for a moment.

The dark haired woman smiled and leaned back in her chair while lighting another cigarette. “So,” her feminine voice slithered through the cool air as she removed the now smoking cigarette from her lips. “What has caused the Almighty, Omniscient God to call upon me herself?”

God did not speak but instead watched the woman. Seeing that she wasn’t going to get an immediate response from God, the woman sighed heavily, taking a few more puffs from her cigarette.

“Listen, I know it’s been a couple of centuries since we last met with one another, but can we just cut all the formalities and get straight to the bullshit? You know I’m a very busy woman with all the souls you send me, so I need to be getting back to business soon.”

God still did not speak or change her calm facial expression. The dark haired woman stared back, growing more and more annoyed by God’s lack of response. She finally tossed the cigarette to the side and sat up.

“C’mon, love! Quit being such a damn vag tease and tell me why you called for this meeting.”

God finally opened her mouth to speak. “Did you bring the contract with you?” Her voice was light and sweet.

The dark haired woman raised a finally arched eyebrow and gave a smile of disbelief. “The contract? You mean,” she paused to consider what ‘the contract’ was while studying God’s eyes closely. Suddenly, the dark haired woman laughed and beamed. “Why you little bitch! You finally want to close the deal? Wow… I almost don’t know what to say!” She laughed triumphantly once more.

“Do you have it?” God’s expression didn’t change.

The dark haired woman proceeded to smile as she reached up and pulled a black leather folder from out of thin air. “You know I’m always up for a fun filled game of Armageddon!”

In her excitement, the dark haired woman fumbled with the leather folder, opening it up to reveal a golden piece of paper with lettering unreadable to those unfamiliar to the language of deities. Before she placed the paper before God, she paused to consider something. “Why now have you chosen to agree to this?”

God did not respond and the woman smirked once more. “I expected you wouldn’t want to give me your reasoning. That’s fine by me.”

With that, the woman placed the paper on the table in front of God and presented God with a golden pen. “All you have to do is sign on the dotted line. After that, I’ll take care of everything.”
