Chapter 2
Tests Begin
The rest of the morning went like normal. I was finishing my lunch and on my way to meet up with Dylan and Thomas at our next class. I walked to classroom 202. As I walked into the classroom I noticed Dylan and Thomas weren’t there.
‘I must be early. Oh, well. I’ll just read while I wait.’ I thought dropping my book bag in my chair and digging through it for my book. When I found it I went over to the corner of the room and myself conferrable sitting on the bookshelf.
I sat there and read for maybe 15 minutes before I heard someone walk in. Assuming it was Thomas and Dylan; I stood up and began to walk to my desk.
I suddenly stopped in my steps when someone with a white t-shirt stepped in front of me. At that moment I knew that the people who had entered the room were not Thomas and Dylan, but Joey and his team.
I looked up to see Joey’s face. He had a smirk. That smirk gave me a bad feeling. I dropped my book surprised when two other people entered the room. I quickly glanced to see who it was. It was Thomas and Dylan. Joey must have noticed that I was looking at Thomas and Dylan instead of him, so he stepped in front of me so that I couldn’t see them anymore.
“What are you looking at?” he asked with a smirk. My gaze quickly adverted from where I had last seen Thomas and Dylan to Joey. The look in his eyes sent shivers down my spine. I took a step back as Joey stepped closer.
“What’s wrong?” he asked the smirk never leaving his face. I took another step back. Before I knew it I was backed into the corner of the room with Joey directly in front of me. I tried to look tough, like I wasn’t afraid of him. But he put his hands on my hips exactly like he did the night he raped me. All of my confidence went out the window at that moment. Joey leaned in. I tightly closed my eyes begging for it all to be a dream. I felt his breath on my ear.
“I know your secret. I know what you’re trying to hide, Lynne. But you can’t hide it from me. It’s obvious when I touch you. I can tell that you’re pregnant. Don’t hide it. You should be proud.” He whispered. He was going to say more but Courtney who was sitting on a desk interrupted.
“Joey, hurry it up. We only have 10 minutes to get to class. And our next class is three levels up.” She explained. Joey sighed.
“We’ll continue this later, ok?” he stated backing up.
A few moments later Joey, Jeb, and Courtney left the room. My knees gave out and I fell to the ground crying. For once I didn’t care if Thomas or Dylan saw. I didn’t care if anyone saw. I was scared. Joey was like my boogieman, the figure that haunts my every nightmare. But Joey wasn’t a figure of my imagination, he was real.
Thomas bent down and picked up my book before walking over and kneeling down in front of me. He put a hand on my shoulder. I sat up a little bit before hugging him and crying on his shoulder. He didn’t say anything, so I didn’t move. Thomas gently rubbed my back as I cried.
“Lynne? Is what Joey said true?” Dylan asked as if he wasn’t sure he really wanted to know. He must have been able to tell that I was confused. I knew that Thomas and Dylan couldn’t have heard what Joey had whispered to me so I couldn’t think of what Dylan could be talking about. “Joey told us as he left...” Dylan began but paused before continuing. He sounded unsure of himself, as if he wasn’t sure if he should ask or not. But then he continued. “He said that you were pregnant.” Dylan suddenly and quickly blurted out. When I heard that I suddenly stopped crying. I was shocked. Maybe I just didn’t believe that Joey would say anything, or maybe I just never thought about it, either way though, now both Dylan and Thomas knew. I let go of Thomas and let myself fall backwards. My back hit the bookshelf.
“Lynne.” Thomas said concerned.
“Yeah, it’s true. I – I’m sorry tha – that I didn’t...Tell you. I didn’t want anyone to...To know.” I explained trying to keep myself from crying even more.
“How...Did it happen? I mean, I can’t really picture you and Joey together.” Thomas asked.
“Truest me, I could never picture me and him together, believe me.” I explained.
“So then, what happened?” Dylan asked.
“I’ve never seen you so scared of anything before.” Thomas pointed out.
“He – He.” I paused. It was like if I said it, then it would be true, but if I didn’t say anything, then it wouldn’t be true. But in a way it’s like half of me knew it was true and half of me just didn’t want to admit it. “He raped me.” I finally said breaking down into tears again. Thomas pulled me into a hug after a minute. I hugged him back crying on his shoulder. “I – I’m sorry. I’m just...I’m just scared.” I cried out.
“It’s ok. Just let it out. You don’t have to be afraid anymore. Dylan and I will protect you.” Thomas said. A small smile appeared on my face as I hugged Thomas harder. I felt Dylan come to kneel next to me. He put his hand on my back and began to rub my back softly.
“Yeah, you don’t have to cry anymore. We’ll protect you.” Dylan stated with a small reassuring smile on his face. I slowly sat up and whipped my tears away. I had to be strong. Not only for myself but for them, for Thomas and Dylan.
“Thank you.” I said sniffling, a small smile showing on my face. Thomas and Dylan helped me stand up and walk over to my desk. Thomas handed me my book then sat down to my right while Dylan sat behind me.
“Lynne?” Dylan asked as we headed to our last class of the day.
“Yeah? What’s up?” I asked smiling. It was the mood swings Mark said. One minute I was crying, next I was angry, and then the next minute I was jumping around like a jack rabbit. My current mood was happy and giggling.
“How far along are you?” he asked curiously.
“About four maybe five months.” I answered not thinking twice about it as I entered our last class of the day. It was spelling which I was pretty good at. The class went by quickly and I met up with Mark while Dylan and Thomas did their own thing. Mark and I decided to go to the skate park down the street. No one would be there at this time because everyone was just getting home from school.
