They used to be together

Not a boyfriend and girlfriend

But as father and daughter

They used to be happy

Her family a whole

But they grew apart

And it was his fault

He said that he loved her

But he could only say it

Never mean it

And one day he left

Their family now broken

The mom and daughter

Working together

Things turned out fine

But the daughter grew older

And more understanding

She wanted to know

What was really going on

Behind her father's eyes

But what she wanted

Was beyond her reach

She became jealous

Of her friends

And people she knew

Who had a real family

A mother

A father

Maybe not together

But both parents loved their child

That's all she wanted

The daughter grew older still

And became more aware

Of her feelings

Tears would threaten to fall

Over stupid things

And that's when she realized

That she's wasn't crying for what was happening now

But for what happened then

She was crying for him

She was crying for her

The daughter now older

But not old enough

She was only 11 and understood so much

She understood things

Far beyond her years

She understood

All those things

That happened then

And were happening now

She had a gift

To see into someone's heart

To see their true feelings

Even when they were hidden

Behind a mask

She could read people

Like an open book

But in reality was it truly a gift

Or was it a curse

She said it was both

Her gift to help her friends

But a curse to her happiness

She had a chance

To get rid of the gift

But said no for her friends

When they were sad

And hurting inside

With this gift those feelings could hide

With this gift

She could be sure that her friends

Would never feel the pain she could feel

The girl grew older

And now 14

She hides her true self

With a mask that no one can see

She now fights the tears

With pretty smiles

And little lies

Only she knows

She's losing herself

She doesn't remember

Who she really is anymore

She only knows

The person under the mask

And the person outside the mask

She's Lost and Confused

Bruised and Broken

Hurt and Breaking

She's only now realizing it

She's at war with herself

She's fighting her soul

She's fighting her feelings

And failing miserably

She knows that soon

Her true feeling will show

And her friends will worry

Her family will worry

The reason she hid behind the mask in the first place

Is quickly falling apart

Everything she knows

And everything she believes will be lost in an instant

And she knows it too

So many problems in her life

So it's come to no surprise now

That she's gonna break soon

She's shattered and broken

A one winged angel

Fallen and crushed

Everything's going to come crashing down

Before her eyes

And there's nothing she can do to stop it

She realizes now

That she can't hide it anymore

But still

She tries just as much as ever

To win the war with herself

People are starting to see

Traces of who she used to be

And traces of who she really is

People are starting to see

The girl behind the mask

But the people she needs to see most

Her friends

Don't notice the pain

They don't see the tears

And the pain

And the war

That she's hidden behind her eyes

And soon

It will be too late...

So next time you say you know someone

Your best friend even

Look again

Is this them

Is this her

Look around at the friends you have

Especially the ones you don't see often

Yet live just around the corner

Are they at war with themselves?

Is that person who this is about?

Read this

And think about your friends

I know there is one in your group

That doesn't fit in

One you almost never see

But talk to a lot

On email

On the phone

On IM

Is this her?

Did one of your best friends write this?

Is one of your own best friends dying inside?

Read this

And think of what it says

There might be someone like this right in front of your eyes

This is a TRUE story about a girl I know better then anyone. She's not my best friend. She's actually probably my worst enemy. But no matter how much I hate who she has become I wrote this for her. I wrote this as a letter/poem and sent it around as a chain letter. So copy it and paste it to an e-mail and send it around. Tell your friends about this. You never know, this could very well be about your best friend. After all, you don't know me and I don't know you. At least, not here. I could be anyone. I could ba a class mate for all you know. So keep in mind, that there are people like this everywhere. Even if you don't believe that this could be your best friend. Send this around. You never know, you could save a life. Because the girl who this story is about is thinkig of suicide and everyday it crosses her mind. Please, send this around, it may not be someone you know. But by you sending this, it could reach a girl who does need this help. Please, send it around. I'm litterally beging you here. It only takes a minute. The minute you take to send this message could be the minute you save a life.

Just put in the subject box This is The Story of a Girl

That's all you have to do. You don't even have to give me credit. Just please, pass this around.
