I ride my horse through the open plains

Herding the cattle through the summer sun

I look at the sky from time to time

Hoping to see signs of some summer rains

I stop my mount as the movement stops

The cows begin to graze as a breeze picks up

I look to the sky as I feel some rain drops

The clouds have rolled over head to block the sun

I smile as I put on my rain poncho

The rain quickens, the cattle bellow

I sit in peace as the cattle stir

The finally settle at the foot of a fir

I sit on my horse in the open plains

Watching the cattle underneath their tree

I bow my head in a quiet rest

Hoping that the summer rains never end
