r e f r a c/tion
for Terence, september 11, 2001

we lost your light within
the smoldering skyline,
amongst flying machines and
shadows that stained the sidewalks
like a-bomb memories.

(we didn’t look up anymore,
forgetting
the speed of light is faster
than the speed of dark)

-

-

but we found you again,
within past-tense photographs.
you had hope and memory
tangled like lovers in your eyes,
and we realized
we couldn’t see
when looking down.

(tears refracted the world into yours & ours,
lives bending like light caught in invisible mirrors
we never managed to shatter)

we’re not afraid of the sky, anymore.
