Poem Number Four
This is my favorite; I absolutely love it! The title comes from The Canterbury Tales and is Latin for “love conquers all.” Yeah! Also this is told from a guy’s point of view (just to clear things up).
Dedication: To a couple of friends.
“Amor Vincit Omnia”
The music is rap-esque with an erratic beat.
It’s cold, I suppose, in that dress.
And your poor feet must be awful sore in those shoes.
Most of our friends went off looking for someone.
We’re both really thirsty but not willing to face the throngs around the water table.
That’s why our throats are dry.
That disco ball is too flashy.
Our allergies are acting up.
We have to leave in five minutes.
You’re wearing my friend’s coat (because I didn’t bring one).
And, all in all, the scene’s not too romantic.
But you still grinned and kicked off your shoes and agreed
When I asked you to dance in the middle of this concrete courtyard with me.
