What a word

It makes my pulse speed up

Just by mentioning it

It’s a fierce passion

Which pushes you forward

(Or, in some cases, backward)

When all is lost and darkness comes,

It’s there to send you on your way

And give you light

It is never simple

Nor is it always kind

It can make your heart do backflips

And puncture your heart like a thousand arrows

It can make you feel like flying

And drive you insane

It can make you the happiest person in the world

And torture you into a frightful dejection

It can guide you to life

And blind you from sense

It forces you to question yourself

What you believe in

Who you trust

How you feel

Who you are

But the ultimate question

Lies in your confidence and bravado

Your heart lies out in the open

The opportunity to strike at it is imminent

Once you engage yourself in it

There’s no going back

The probability of regretting your decision

In later times

Is unfortunately quite elevated

It’s like riding a roller coaster

You strap yourself into the seat

And there’s no getting off ‘til the ride is over

Sometimes you leave feeling sick and in pain

While on others you feel joyful and excited

But it’s always the ride of a lifetime

It all comes down to this:

Is it worth the risk?
