Symbols of a time long past

Rigid and unyielding

Meant as a warning to me now

But I cannot hold to such standards

Disappointed looks on every face

As I translate

Into the vernacular

The symbols were merely a fairytale

A circle wrapped tight around me

Binding down to my heart

Only my mind is free

Yet it insists upon fantasy

How can I compare to the past

Again I look over the text

What a cruel trick it was

My elementary school report card
