Monday Lunges

Twenty one.

Left leg out,

Bend my legs and touch my knee to the deck.

Hands on bony hips

muscles quiver, keeping my body upright.

Feet together.

Twenty two.

Right leg out,

bend, touch.

Sweat creeps, crawls

between my shoulder blades

I shudder and twist in discomfort.

Feet together.

Twenty three.

Left leg out,

bend, touch.

I wipe salty toil off

my forehead with my wrist

I’ll feel all of these tomorrow.

Feet together.

Twenty four.

Right leg out,

knee to the floor.

Heat pours off my body

as my legs turn to pathetic pieces of jell-o.

Feet together.

Twenty five.

Left leg out,

down.

Push my legs to stand again

Just a hundred and twenty five more to go.

Feet together.
