“I don't care why you weren't at the meeting, just be there next time. No excuses.” The cell phone snapped shut with the force of an irate seventeen year old girl who'd had enough. As Himiko rounded the corner, she abruptly stopped and then looked around for escape routes.
"Let me guess, I'm exactly what your day doesn't need. Right princess?"
"Actually, yes. Now if you'll excuse me, some of us have class." The other girl stepped away from the brick wall she was leaning on, dropping her cigarette on the ground and putting it out with a few violent turns of her foot. Himiko didn't have to guess whose head she was wishing was there instead. Selene merely crossed her arms and smirked at her grimace of distaste.
"I said excuse me. Could you please move now?"
"Don't got a reason to princess."
This was why Selene got on her nerves. Absolutely no respect or consideration of anyone else. Right down to her uniform and hairstyle. Purple was not one of the chosen school colors, really, she didn’t have a clue where she got the skirt and blouse so similar to her own except for the color, and she had no idea how Selene had managed to get away with the matching purple hair for the last few months. Add to that all the bangles on her arms, fingerless gloves, black combat boots, and matching yellow skull headband, earrings, and striped, over the knee stockings, and she was the definition of dress code violation. The worse of it? Selene actually made that mess look good. Compared to her own by the book blue skirt, vest, tie, and socks with white shirt and black maryjanes, Selene looked like she had stepped out of some fashion spread, whereas she just looked. . . boring. Even her brown hair and blue eyes weren't remarkable.
Fed up with the situation, Himiko tried to push her way past the older girl, but no matter which way she turned or even ducked, Selene blocked her, still with that insufferable smirk of hers. The one that meant she was having fun at someone else's expense.
"Would you move already?"
"Oops, getting the princess upset aren't I?"
"Yes, and I'm not a princess."
"Might as well be, with that high and mighty attitude of yours."
"At least I have a reason for my behavior, what about you?"
"Ah, so the kitten has some bite." Did she just giggle at her? Next thing she knew, her face was far too close to the other girl's. She stumbled to the side, obviously in an amusing way, as Selene had let out another giggle of hers. Not of the bubblegum I'm so cute kind either, more like she had figured out a plan to torture this “kitten” she insisted on calling her.
"I have a reason too. Everyone's got one."
Straightening her posture, Himiko mustered up a glare in the other girl's direction.
"And what would that be?"
"It's fun." Shrugging her shoulders, Selene fired another smirk her.
"Only you would think that's a reasonable excuse."
"Only you would think I needed more." Selene took a step forward, causing Himiko to take another step back. Thoroughly entertained by this reaction, she stepped forward again. Himiko stepped back. One step forward, one step back, until Himiko found her hands brushing the wall and looking up at the other girl. A hand shot out and struck the brick behind her.
"Are you trying to scare me?" Her attempt at bravery was ruined by wide eyes.
Leaning in until their faces were inches apart, Selene whispered, "It's working."
Damn. She was right. Himiko hated having her personal space invaded, it was part of the reason she'd yet to keep a boyfriend around. Once they got to hand holding, she would never let a guy any farther. She supposed she couldn't blame them for that. Who wanted a girlfriend they couldn't even try to kiss without her freaking out and pushing him away? And she didn't even know why she did it.
"Don't." She whispered, hoping she could disappear through the wall if she pressed back hard enough.
"Hm? What ever could you mean?" She swore she saw the girl's eye twinkle, and if that was the case, the urge to smack her in the face was getting close to overpowering her urge to run far, far away.
"Not thinking of going anywhere are you?" The hand that had been content to keep itself on Selene's hip, out of her personal space now surged forward to mirror the other. Which brought the two girls much too close for any semblance of comfort for Himiko.
"Ha ha, I get it. Joke's on me. Play time is over." Staring into the other's eyes, Himiko tried to convey that she was quite done with her antics.
"Wrong, play time's just begun."
Another surge forward brought their lips together and closed the remaining distance between them. As Himiko tried to pull away, she found her chin gripped roughly by one hand while the other held a wrist against the wall, trusting the hips pressed together to keep her lone free hand under control. The stiffness in her body didn't seem to deter the other, as she began to move her lips against the other, though much softer than expected. Just as she was relaxing into the warmth of the kiss, Selene pulled away, bringing the hand on her chin to brush her cheek.
"Why are you crying?" She heard a soft voice ask, so different from that haughty tone she was used to.
"What?" Her voice broke when her own hand discovered the tears running down her face.
"Leave me alone!" With a sudden rush of anger, Himiko shoved Selene away from her, making the other girl stumble. Her hands becoming fists, Himiko shouted, "That was my first kiss! You bitch!" She didn't even look up to see the shocked expression before her, instead turning and running back the way she came, desperate to get as far away as possible.
"Shit. That wasn't much fun at all." Putting back on her guise of the rebellious teenager, Selene merely glanced at the retreating figure before trudging back into the school building. However, her teachers were treated to a rare silence the rest of the day.
