A/N: I have redone some of this chapter because I didn't like the format before. Please note that the story gets better as the story progresses :)
Note: Ardent (the name of the park) was a bit of wordplay for me, it means "feeling great passion, or felt very passionately."

Chapter One.

I’m a nobody.

There are groups in high school, the popular people, the nerds, the Asians, the rejects and then, right at the bottom of the Great Chain of Being - there are the nobody’s. In addition, I, Jenna, had fully accepted that ever since my first day at high school being a freshman. Sure, there was the occasional time where I thought, I wish I was popular. The only time I was noticed was when I got in the way, which I tried not to let happen too often. Jenna wasn’t a nerd, nor was I gifted or talented in some special way. I was a normal teenager. I also had the normal crush on Dean Ralph. Not that I expected him to notice me, but cant a girl dream? He was still the sexiest, hottest and nicest person you could possibly get. He had piercing aqua-blue eyes that sparkled every time he laughed or smiled. His olive skin was clean and pure, never had a pimple on it in his life. His thick, black, floppy hair was pretty much his trade-mark. Everyone was curious what it would be like to run their fingers through it, trying to smooth it down. He would always run his hand through it whenever he was confused. He was tall and lean, but still was muscular enough to scare off anyone that got in his way. Mr. Dean Machine was the really athletic type, but still you wondered if he used drugs to bulk up. He was quarter-back on the school football team, but what else do you expect. But, he had a girlfriend. People like him always have a girlfriend. God… isn’t Keria Stampler a lucky woman.

It was nearly the end of Year 9 and I still lacked friends or any interaction with a guy what so ever, meaning I’ve never had a boyfriend. This was the one thing that bothered me. I’d always read about those romantic hardships that lovers went though while in high school and always daydreamed myself in that position. Not that I thought it would ever happen. I knew I was going to die an 80-year-old virgin in a crummy little house in the middle of no-where. Either that or be the little lady down the road that smiled like she was on crack. Well, that’s what I thought until I was noticed by Mr. Prom King himself.

I was sitting in her art class, as usual, waiting for the teacher to arrive. When she did, I was shocked to see Dean just behind her.

“Class, this is Dean Ralph…” the teacher started until someone whistled. I let out a small smirk. Then the teacher continued, “He will be joining our class for a few weeks.”

I was surprised by this. Their art class was already filled to the brim with people. Then I wondered what he was even doing in this class.

“Dean, there is a seat up the back next to…” She paused looking down the roll. Even the teacher didn’t notice me. Oh shit, she means next to me. “Jenna. Yes, just up the back next to Jenna.”

I quickly adjusted my stuff so he could sit down. He walked up the back towards the spare seat next to me. Everyone watched him until he sat down. That’s when class begun. He basically ignored me the whole lesson, until five minutes before class ended and school finished for the day.

“Hey, so who are you again? Are you new?” Dean asked. It took me a while before it clicked into me that he was talking to me. The Nobody.

“Oh. I’m Jenna. And no, I’m not new.” I replied softly, not wanting the teacher to hear.

“Oh, I’ve just never seen you around. Shit. Sorry, I meant that in a nice way.” He fumbled with his thumbs.

“It’s ok, I understand.” I lied, sort of.

“So do you get what this teacher is shitting on about?” He asked. I just shrugged. He just laughed. The bell rang. Dammit, I thought to myself.

“What’s wrong?” Dean asked, obviously reading my mind. I didn’t answer because Dean was tugged away by his friends. Dammit, I thought to myself again.

I arrived to art class late today, I made her best effort to look casual, but look good. After all, Dean was sitting next to me for an hour. As the teacher excused me for my lateness I made my way up to my seat. And there was Dean. I sat down in her seat, making myself comfortable then soon after buried my face into her notebook like it was the most interesting piece of white paper I had ever seen.

“Hey there Jenna.” He remembered my name.

“Hey” I still didn’t make eye contact. With that, Dean cupped my chin turning my face towards him. I could feel my face doing a fabulous impression of a tomato. He smiled, obviously noticing this.

“It’s ok, I know.” He said calming, basically declaring the fact that he knew I had a planet sized crush on him.

“Shit.” I said aloud. “I said nothing.” Dean frowned, still holding my chin. Finally, I couldn’t take it anymore and shifted my head away from his hand, letting my head move freely. He clearly didn’t like this as he just grabbed it again.

“Don’t move... I like looking into your eyes.” He paused. “When you first look at them, you think they are green, but looking at them closer they are just green around the outside and then they have gold on the inside, just around the pupil. It’s beautiful.” He smiled, I blushed like beetroot.

“You eyes are like an aqua, with green dots spreading randomly across the surface.” I stated, then realizing I was too caught up in the moment and looked away, moving my head away from his grasp for the second time. He has a girlfriend, he has a girlfriend… Before Dean could turn my head back to him, Miss Clouford spoke up loudly.

“Class, I will be pairing you up into pairs to complete this next art assignment.” Miss Clouford declared. “Each pair will be given a different topic and you are to work with your partner to create a work of art!” I could see that the teacher was basically jumping up with excitement. As the teacher went through the roll, I waited for my name to be paired up with some random kid.

“And last but not least, Jenna and Dean.” I froze. I could feel the blood stop circulating in my body.

“Looks like we will be working together.” Dean spoke up. Then Miss Clouford came to Dean and my table and said, “Your topic is The Human Body.” She smiled then walked away.

I tensed up at the topic, and I could feel Dean, by my side, doing the same. How the hell are we going to do that topic? “I know, ey!” Dean said, obviously reading my mind again. Then the bell rang. I shot out of the room before Dean could stop me. Unfortunately my plan didn’t go so well, since Dean ran after me and spun me around.

“So do you want to meet up at Ardent Park after school to do the art assignment, or at least discuss ideas?” He said with a puffed breath. “Sure” I replied, still not looking up to make eye contact – that was too risky, might have an orgasm, right? “Is five good for you?” He asked. God, I love how he takes control. “Oh, um, sure. Five is fine.” I quickly replied, realizing I was dozing off into her own little romance world. Then he was gone as quick as he came.
